^ are screen protectors really still necessary? I've just had one because of old school thinking. If the screens are resistant to keys and coins, is that good enough? I just won't bring the phone out to the beach (sand). My wife's S7 plastic screen protector was a royal PITA to get it to play with the case.

Otterbox cases for the win. i cant tell you how many times it has saved my phone when dropped. and i find phones slippery as hell anyway.

S8 looks to be on track for the biggest Samsung phone preorder ever :

" Keep in mind that these statistics are for South Korea, where the company is also selling upgraded models that feature 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory. If consumers pre-order the Galaxy S8+ that ships with 6GB RAM and 128 gigs of storage, they will get a DeX Station absolutely free."

Not to discount the data, but I'm curious if the same trend is true in the US which has different specs and preorder bonuses.

US volumes not nearly as exact but over S7 volumes have to be at least a relief for Samsung that the Note 7 doesn't appear to have permanently damaged their draw.

That's good, it's a very good looking device that is hitting at a good time when flagships have become stale. I've never pre-ordered a phone before, so they certainly roped me in. I'm only getting the S8 but I keep 2nd guessing my choice vs the s8+

I think I'll like downsizing my phone from the phablet size, but still.

The glass screen protector business is a thing of brilliance... they somehow convinced people into buying inferior glass to put on top of their properly engineered glass. The screen protector being made of something that's so fragile it needs consistent replacement due to scratches, edge chips, or outright cracks from falls that shouldn't affect anything. On top of that, there are people out there who for some reason think "glass is glass" and that if they didn't have their glass screen protector on that the REAL phone would have cracked just the same. These people are actually happy to buy another cheap piece of glass to replace the inferior POS that was just proven to be overly fragile.

Mother f'in brilliant

We bought one, it had a "lifetime" warranty. So it'd break, we'd go get another installed. As I pre ordered this S8+, she got a Life proof case, even though she doesn't need such a thing. So that should be a thing of the past too, guess we'll find out. But I see your point, better than breaking the screen though.

I don't use a case at all. I don't like the extra bulk and the phones are too good looking to be covered up by cases that take away from it. Haven't used a case or screen protector in years.

I'm glad I went with the S8+ after handling them in-store. The relatively small width makes it just as manageable as the Note 7. IMO if you've always been a phablet person, the + is a no brainer.

Also as someone who's not a fan of the edge in general, I do much prefer the shape of the edge on the S8 vs my current S7 Edge. Feels more comfortable in hand and seems less prone to accidental touches.

I'm due for an upgrade and a carrier switch (TMobile sucks for me). Going to get two S8+, one for me and one for the wife. Thinking Verizon for the trade-in deal and Best Buy for the $100/phone discount. I went in to my local BB today to preorder and they filled out the paperwork and sent me on my way. Odd thing is they didn't start the number port because they didn't want it to interrupt my current service, even though there should be no issue until I activate the new phones. Looking at the Samsung offer page it says I have to show an "original register receipt" showing purchase on or before April 20 and I technically didn't "purchase" anything at BB- no money changed hands. I'm afraid that the way BB handled this my preorder won't be considered as a "purchase" for the Samsung and Verizon offers even though I have a preorder reserve form dated April 10. I don't want to go back to the store b/c they're not helpful; I suppose I can call their 800 number but I thought I'd check here first to see if anyone has experience/advice.

Is anyone having a problem getting the free VR promo thing working with a preorder of a S8/S8+? First the lady told me the instructions were on the receipt, they were not. I googled it and came up with this page; http://www.samsung.com/au/galaxy-s8-offer/

Seems pretty easy, except I don't see that anywhere in the app. Chatted with Samsung rep within the app, they claimed I had to wait until I got the phone? Seems silly to me, but perhaps so someone doesn't bait and switch with them. That page doesn't say anything about waiting, and I didn't get a voucher. Verizon said its an order # on the receipt. Annoying.

You need the phone in hand, otherwise nothing is preventing you from canceling your pre order afterwards

If you order through Samsung then you can redeem the offer right away but if you order any other way you need to wait until you have the phone. Redemption requires the IMEI number and MAC address.

I'
Would anyone want a spigen neo hybrid case for basically half price? This is for the s8+, which I ordered by mistake because I'm an idiot. Since I ordered by mistake I get charged return shipping of $6 or so for the label so I'll only be getting a total of $8 refund.

For that same $8 I'd rather send it to someone here who wants it instead of back to the warehouse.

l'll take it. My s8+ comes in next week and I was gonna get that case any way. PM me the info.

Was playing with LG G6 and S8 side by side. The G6 has much better audio and quite frankly a nicer (but more traditional) build. The only downside was that the display was dimmer (not sure how well it holds up outside). G6 has a lot to offer - i do wish samsung would spend an extra nickel and put in better speakers.

If they aren't going to put in stereo speakers, at the very least they should do what Apple did with the 7 and use the ear piece on the front as an additional speaker.

I'd rather have one speaker than lopsided sound. My IP7 sounds mental. Or at least let us control the balance out a bit. Now, my 4-speaker setup on my ipad pro 9.7 sounds great, but they had a lot of room to play with.

That's the only conclusion I could come up with, thanks. Yet the Verizon lady did not say that, the web page does not say that. There is nothing written about waiting until afterwards unless I missed it. It simply says, download the app, hit the button and enter the number. Anyways, guess I'll have to wait, no biggie I guess.

Honestly dual speakers have all but disappeared in 2016/2017 -- no one said a word about it and took it like a bi*** 🙂

Because of all the things we want in a smartphone, dual speakers are the least important. I had an Xperia z3, an HTC m8 and have an iPhone 7. They all sound crappy. My main driver is a note 7 and iPhone 7 and I rarely use the speaker for anything. Seriously, stereo speakers in a phone is a waste of space and resources.
