I've had no issues with my S8+ and Gear S3. Nor did I with my S7 edge or my previous Samsung watches (S2, Fit). Sounds like an uninformed guess.
 
Is the swapped S8+ still giving you the same problem when using it with the Gear S3, because I am thinking about getting one for myself and I do not know if I should stay with the S7 Edge or the S8+
Which should I choose? I need the battery life to be quite honest!

So far today: 12 hours from full charge, 19% remaining. Moderate use, no watching video or Skype, 80% of the time on WIFI, 100% connected to SG3. I like the phone a lot but no way I can use a phone with this poor of battery. I'll give it thru the holiday weekend to see if anything improves.
 
Still haven't made up my mind regarding the phone, but now another question, does the new one plus 3T work with the Gear S3, and is the phone battery still a problem with this?
If you have any other phone suggestions I am really open to any of them!

You have to have a Galaxy phone for the initial setup. First screen after powering on won't let y you move forward without one.
The S8+ is a great phone, I don't think its the massive upgrade its made out to be. I would've held out for the next Note if I could've. The S3 is a killer device if you're OK with a large watch. Leaving the phone at home while running is a huge plus.
 
I understand, never thought about using only the watch when jogging. I have to agree that is awesome, though, when I go jogging I don't take anything with me!.
The size of the watch is not a problem, it looks great just as it is.
My main concern is the battery life of the phone and watch, because I would hate it if I had to charge them each day.
That is a really big inconvenient.

You'll be charging the phone every day, that's for sure (doesn't matter if it's the S8 or S8+). On the bright side, fast charging on the phone is really fast 🙂 No idea about the watch.
 
Was offered a deal from sprint to get s8 50% off with two year contract, last Samsung phone I had was the s3 and I currently have the LG g3. I usually upgrade every 3 years and my LG g3 is acting up a bit. I think could also get the LG g6 50% off, having a tough time deciding one thing i didn't like about my old samsung was how easy the glass would break and whichever phone I choose will going in some sort of Otterbox or other tough case.

How is the vr on the samsung for watching netflix, is it better than watching a movie on 24" monitor, is it comfortable to wear for a few hours?

Anybody regret getting the s8?

I came from a 6p and definitely don't regret moving. Frankly I prefer the modern Samsung experience over vanilla android. Google's voice assistant is better, but that's mainly because Samsung's Bixby doesn't have voice control yet and serves no purpose. Touchwiz has come a long way and there's very little I would care to change compared to the 6p. I "downsized" to the regular S8, and am glad I didn't get the plus size as the phablet sized phones were starting to wear on me.

I've only tried the VR for a handful of times, and it's not something I'll use much. I watched an hour long TV show episode on it, and didn't have much issue with eye strain but my face definitely got hot and a bit sweaty. I think it would be better to just use my laptop for the same thing. The biggest issue with the netflix app is you can't seem to be able to adjust the vertical center point. For whatever reason, the netflix app isn't just a screen in front of your face, it uses the accelerometer to let you "look" around the room you're watching the screen in. Neat affect, but the problem is if you want to watch something while in a recliner (basically looking up), you're also staring at the ceiling inside the netflix app and can't see the screen. I can't find a way to make it so the screen I'm looking at is centered when I'm reclined, even though there's an option in the VR app to center the screen. For whatever reason, the vertical position in Netflix is not affected by this option like it is with other apps/games I've played. So in affect I always have to be sitting up as if I'm watching on my TV or laptop, so why not just watch on my TV or laptop?

There's also an issue with distortion around the edge of the lenses with the VR. They do their best, but by nature if I want to look at something at my peripheral I'll just move my eyes over there and not move my head much. In practice you're looking at the extreme edge of the lens, and you can tell. To get a good view you have to move your head to keep the clear part of the lenses on what you want to look at, and it's simply awkward.

Basically, base the decision on the phone on its own. The VR set is nothing more than a toy that will collect dust IMO.
 
What other flagships would you guys recommend, because my budget just got lower, I am now in the $700 area and I do not want to overspend.

I'm having a weird issue with BT and pairing with my truck's system. I can connect and play media, but if I shut the truck off and start back up, I lose connectivity and have to re-pair the units. I didn't have to do this with my S6. I'm going to look and see if there's an update from Ford I need to perform, but it's pretty annoying right now.

But then again so would every other tech enthusiast in the Galaxy right now.

You specifically said "if the leaked images of the note 8 turn out to be true..."

But there aren't any leaked images of the note 8, only renders based on speculation. Maybe you didn't intend it that way, but the way you typed that statement implies that the image you posted was a "leaked image of the note 8"

There are leaked photos that are supposedly parts of the Note 8. Of course no one can confirm yet if they are real.

Clearly I'm hoping the render -based on leaks- turns out to be accurate.
 
I'm sure it's accurate. I'll probably shelve my s8+ when the note 8 comes out. I usually use my phones until the next one comes out. It's a sickness.
 
Besides having a button on the bottom side right, that Note 8 looks the same as my S8 Plus. Don't get me wrong, it's sexy, but I don't really get the blowing a load over it like it's something totally new.

I turned on the iris scanning on my S8+ this morning and am pleased with its performance. I've used the fingerprint scanner since my S7 Edge but with the move to the scanner on the back with the S8 and the fact that mine's in a case with a cover that flips back, it makes it a little more unwieldy to unlock for me. But the iris scan so far has been perfect. Man these high end phones are slick as shit. Goddamn I do not miss having those old crappy < $100 phones.

Someone else mentioning VR made me remember I need to sell my Gear VR. It's kind of redundant (and not as good) as my HTC Vive. Anyone looking for a slightly used, perfect condition Gear VR? I'll throw in a controller free! Haha.

One could argue all smartphones are the same (just a rectangle with a screen- AND I've seen this attempted a few times) but of course they aren't.

At first blush the Note 7 was 'just like' the S7E. But of course in reality it wasn't. The Note 7 was a better design. A little less of that retro gumdrop "roundiness" which personally I think slaughters the look of a phone the more pronounced it is. The N7's design was more refined, more professional. The feel in hand was just near perfect. And of course... the pen. Every day I miss my pen function.

I'd be happy if Samsung or anyone for that matter agreed with you that there was no difference- then there would be no difference in price either. Suits me just fine! Unfortunately... there's reality. The *better* phone is going to cost more. Now between the s8 and Note 8... I wonder which will?

Bottom line: the S7e is a great design and a nice phone. But I (and many) preferred the Note 7. By far.

A likely outcome is, though the S8 is a great design and a nice device... I and many others will likely far prefer the Note 8. It's a safe bet it won't cost the same either.
 
The S8 brings the S's design in-line with the Note line. It's way way less rounded off than the S7, comparable to the Note 7.

I'll be buying a Note 8 when it comes out. Maybe even put in a Pre-order again. I got bit by the Note 7, but man was it worth it.

Yes. I switched to a black S7e too. I should've just returned the Note 7 and stuck with my Note 4 till the Note 8 came out. Now I have an S8 and I actually like it. It reminds me a lot of the Note 7. Probably because it's not as rounded as the S7e and the edge rejection is significantly better. Only missing my S-Pen. Come on August!
