Galaxy S question

Need a little help here...I have an executive that just "updated" his Galaxy S phone and now in the message list after he reads an email it changes the font color to where it's almost indistinguishable from the background color. Unread emails show up nicely but after reading they really almost disappear...He's basically the only person in the company with one and I have dug through all the menus I can find on the phone and searched online to no avail, anyone here know how to change this?

Which Galaxy S? What kind of update?

How many Galaxy S phones are there? And that's all the details I have from him, he did an "update"...I'm guessing it's an OS update of some kind but I don't follow any Android news, do they do OTA updates like BB's do?

There are at least 4 Galaxy S phones that I can immediately think of. Yes they do OTA updates. Which carrier does he use?

You need more details... It honestly sounds like he may have flashed a themed email client over the stock one... Could be wrong, though.

Have him switch to K9/Touchdown? 😉

That would open a whole other can of worms...I honestly hate dealing with anything other than BB's on our corporate network, they are so much easier to manage.

I'm pretty sure it's still the same email client, can't remember specifically what it said but looking through the program list it looked stock...it's just doing way too good a job of making read emails fade into the background.

Sounds like he just got the froyo update. I have the Tmo vibrant GS and when I did the froyo update the built-in email client did just what the OP claims his user did. My fix was installing K9. I tried to no avail to fix the default client but no luck. K9 is much better anyway and its free but walking a DFU through the setup is a PITA.

What does LOTR have to do with this?😵

Oh...FROYO, not...oh never mind:$

I did verify that he is on Verizon but since it seems to mirror your experiencce I'd guess it's the same update. I am not at all familliar with Android phones but I'm guessing K9 works with Exchange? Anything else materially different about using it over the standard email app, like anything that might trip up an exec using it?

The question is, is it the Touchwiz (default) client or the actual gmail (google) app.

The icon at the bottom of the launcher is for the TW client while the actual google app is the white envelope with red edges.

Getting specific now...pretty sure it's the google app, white envelope with red edges...

So in any case it's sounding like there's no way to adjust or change the way read emails are displayed with whatever app he's using right now since the update, is that about right? Only real option would be a downgrade (if that's even possible) or loading another email client like K9?

doesn't sound like this is the kind of guy who would be using custom roms. Assuming his data is backed up, I would try a factory reset.

Definitely not using a custom ROM, I'm guessing it was the froyo update as there were other changes he found that he completely enjoys, just not the near unreadable nature of messages after he opens them for the first time...and since he does like the other features I was asked to find a way to "fix" the issue...since someone mentioned K9 had issues with exchange authentication using domain/username (which we do) is there another email client that someone could suggest that is more "user friendly" in this situation? Don't need anything fancy for him, just legible...he still insists on running a 19" LCD at 1024x768... As I've said, I know Jack about Android so I appreciate some informed opinions.

The only true exchange email app is touchdown. For corporate its great, but only for corporate. Its also 20 bucks. He should go that route. He can get a 30day trial and see if he likes it.

Thanks, that sounds like his best option at this point, I appreciate all the help.
