This is awesome but this is still the single thing I don't use my phone for, watching movies. Maybe the occasion youtube vid or other small funny video to show friends when we are out and about real quickly, but 2 hours? Or in the case of Avatar 2 1/2, maybe even more?

I don't get it personally.

Yeah, I have the Vibrant and while I was never really a "look at this video on my phone!" kind of guy, (except ofcourse the vids I take of my GF, but I digress) the screen on the GS phones are great and the 5.1 fake surround is really pretty cool, even for music. While I sleep watching avatar, other movies look and sound great.

Portable media player. The things can hold up to 32 gigs now.

To be honest, I watched an episode of Star Trek yesterday while here at work on my Droid Eris. I was elated.

I am not sure what argument you are making, yea my phone is a portable media player and it is 32 gigs. It supports DivX and XviD and all that but I've just never really needed it. As someone else said, I do have a few smaller videos ;) that I watch but they are smaller then 5 minutes. I have netflix now that I can stream and I don't think I'll use it.

I guess on a plane I might but I think I'd still rather play on my DS while listening to music or reading as opposed to a 4" movie.

I agree with that, it is cool. I'd like to hear what this so called 5.1 sounds like. I have a 5.1 headset, which obviously has only 2 speakers but it accomplishes a "surround sound" feel very well. So I definitely would be interested to see how it sounds.

People always tout the media features over one phone than the other. This is great and I know many people that watch movies on their iPhone, Pre, and Android phone.

all this sounds great but not worth draining the whole battery for just a movie.

how are you guys watching divx/xvid movies on your galaxy/captivate?

I have the stock media player and doubletwist - neither of them support my ripped .avi movies.

Stock player for supported videos. Rockplayer for others. Galaxy s gorgeous screen makes watching videos such a pleasure. I also love the built in DNLA support. I can enable Allshare and finish watching on my living room big screen.

There are also some apps out there that allow for streaming.....adult....content. Not that I would use it...its just another thing that is freaking cool. I have a buddy at work that is a die hard Apple fanboy. We take shots at each other all the time playing "can you do this". He was pretty amazed at my Galaxy live wallpaper that responded to touch. I can't wait to show him some HD Jenna Jameson.

i have the same movies on my phone and my zuneHD. while i will rarely watch them on my phone, ill watch them on the zune when im waiting for stuff. the screen quality is good, the sound is nice and i dont worry about the battery too much. my phone will kill the battery half way thru a movie. its also a great way to keep kids busy in the back seat sometimes, i dont have a video system in my truck. if my phone could do the same as my zune, id probably use it too.
