Could the problem be fixed by swapping out the bad battery or it there something else which contributes to the problem.
If the battery could be changed and the firmware fixed, it could be a rare model in use but users would have to be surreptitious when it comes to air travel.

Well, Samsung themselves can't say why the phones and the replacements were catching on fire to start with so I guess it would be a 50/50 at best.

Do we know the breakdown of carrier Note 7s burned? Like, how many VZW or ATT? I am missing my note 7. 🙁

So, I am eating lunch in the lunchroom at work today when a co-worker runs in and says that there is smoke and a dangerous smell coming from my room which is near my server room and where my turned off Note 7 is laying on my desk. I run to my office and its NOT the Note 7 but our UNIX based server that runs our IP phone system. One of the power cables shorted and too out the BR drive. This note 7 has me on edge. 🙂

So i went to ATT today and well, they refused my BOGO deal on the note 7.
Basically they wanted me to pay full next retail price on 2 s7 edge, vs my buy one get one free note 7's.

I basically threaten to sue them for bait and switch because the phones are supposed to be a replacement.
Then i told them i want EVERYTHING reversed my entire account to the way it was before i got the notes and i would return them for a full refund.

The store said they can not do that and would need permission from home office so the manager basically requested assistance and i am waiting for ATT to call me back.

But yeah i am not happy with ATT at the moment.
Either they will do the same deal on the S7 edge's to replace both my notes, or i will most likely probably have my cousin who is an attorney, send them a nice mail about this and see how they handle it.

Well, I just got off the phone with verizon business. I control the account for my job. Ordered the LGv20 in silver to replace the Note 7. They will send a fireproof box for my Note 7. Should have it on Monday. So long Note 7. I will indeed miss you. 🙁

I could see where they wouldn't give you another BOGO, but it's so bizarre that they wouldn't just take them back and cancel out the transaction.

T-Mobile has been fantastic about the whole thing.

Do you maybe live near one of the airports that Samsung has a kiosk for trading in Note 7's? Im thinking they might be a bit less rigid about an exchange.

This thread needs more Achtung!

I suspect he's been rendered virtually silent for the next few months, if not more. Samsung not only released a flagship phone that was inherently defective, it completely bungled its attempt at a fix. You just can't be a robotic cheerleader for a company that made a fool of itself so thoroughly that people will be talking about this moment for years to come.

Moreover, all those attempts at crowing about stock prices and analyst forecasts? They were pretty flimsy to start with, but they just went out the window. Samsung not only loses billions due to two recalls, it has to go without its second most important phone after just two months on sale (and less than that if you count the break during the first recall). That's millions of phones that won't ship, hurting Samsung's bottom line until late summer next year. And I can only imagine Achtung breaking out in hives knowing that some of those customers will buy an iPhone 7 Plus and might never come back.

Settling for an iPhone when you had an awesome phone like the Note 7 is just... sad to me.

But I get it. There's just no other flagship right now that's much other than a boring compromise somehow.

LGV20. IMO. I also see no sense in going to an iphone after a note 7. Its not even remotely in the same league other than the iphone can make a call. I went with an LGV20 as I already have an S7 edge. I also have a job issued iphone 7 that just sits on my desk as it is useless to me.

Big upgrade from a Note 7 though so sure they'll be delighted.

Yeah the LGV20 is pretty interesting. At least LG tries different things with the format. (Modular design, task screen etc. )

It feels like most Note owners will be willing to give Samsung another chance, but I only would if Samsung actually finds the specific design/manufacturing issues that caused the fires and shares that with the public. WIthout that, there's little confidence it won't be repeated.

I do have hopes for a mega S8 as the S7 Edge/Note 7 are arguably the best devices you can still buy. My wife's iPhone 7 camera has generally caught up to my S7 Edge so there is a real opportunity for the S8 to get similar separation as the S7 did over the iPhone 6S.

The problem is the ones that caught fire are hard to "autopsy" because they're essentially destroyed, and the fires are rare enough that they'll have to test thousands of them long term to get meaningful results.

Maybe we'll move away a bit from ultra thin phones and sealed batteries. Maybe.

Well considering they have a couple million now at their disposal to test, they need to figure it out.

I found the Note 7 to be far and away the best phone to use in a very long time. The S7 now is the next best thing, especially the screen, but I am curious how the S8 will be
