Anything android is hackable. Hell they were able to put a insecure boot loader onto the sg3

But if you do that you lose the S Pen features that are baked into Touchwiz.

And overall this tablet looks terrible. I was really disappointed upon seeing the specs at their event (no 1080p+ screen?), and these reviews coming out paint it in an even worse light. None of you should be cutting Samsung a break on the design either. It isn't lawyers at fault, or Apple, it's just bad.

Because defending multiple lawsuits in lots of countries is expensive, time consuming and sucks up manpower that could be used elsewhere.

Really? Samsung's lawyers double as tablet designers? Talented folks!

Can we be honest? Samsung is not a design company. They certainly engineer some great products, but their design merely okay.

Also, who cares if this thing stinks, it has some great ideas that will be refined when they have a new one out in 3 months to replace it.

I don't think its so much that, as it is the engineers had to get every little bit approved by the lawyers to make sure it was okay to be out in this patent riddled environment. Therefore, IMO this design is probably like their 50th favorite choice...

You know, I kinda like the way this tablet looks. I dont mind the squishy plastic as long as there is a lining inside to protect the electronics. I have a sgs3 and this would compliment it nicely. One of the complaints is that it is light. Whats wrong with light? Why would I want to hold up a heavy tablet?

This is not the first negative review I've read on the note 10.1.
Its THE most negative for sure though.

When you have lost android police, you know your product is epic fail. I am surprised they spoke negatively about an android product.

There's quite a lot of speculation on why the Galaxy Note 10.1 is so bad. Whether it's Apple's fault, the patent system's fault, the Samsung engineer's fault, finger pointing is kind of useless. Asus is doing great in the same environment.

It's easy to give honest reviews when you have options, which is what Android offers in spades.

OTOH, when you're only putting out 1 phone and 1 tablet per year, the reality distortion field is in full effect.

Nice job trying to make a thread about an android tablet somehow turn into apple and a reality distortion field.

Hmm, maybe at 399 I would bite, but 500, dunno. I see nothing majorly wrong with it, but thats me.

At 399, it'd be in direct competition with the Asus TF300 at 379. Exynos 4412 may be more powerful than the Tegra 3 in the Asus, but the TF300's build quality is very good for a sub 400 10in tab. And nearly unskinned too, so it flies. Unless the s-pen is worth that much to you.

I'm disappointed in Samsung, the Gtab 10.1 and 8.9 were both excellently designed devices, mostly hampered by Tegra 2 and HoneyComb. The Tab 2 7in and 10in were not intended to be high end devices, and the move to OMAP4 was barely a blip given the time frame. And TouchWiz made those OMAP4s chug too, compared to the OMAP4430 sporting Moto XyBoards.

Take the Gtab 10.1 and 8.9 chassis, replace the Tegra 2 with a Tegra 3 or Exynos 4412, add an sd card slot, and install 1920x1080 and 1600x900 resolution panels, and that'd be a product I'd jump on.

I really really like that split screen or apps overlapping other apps, even if the 10.1 Note doesn't pull it off spectacularly. Anyone know if this is in development for android as a whole? Hate having to switch screen to browse for a little during a baseball game, then it has to buffer the video again when I switch back.

Would be awesome to have a split screen for many things imo.
Google "android cornerstone."

I don't see any resemblance.

Of course you don't. The Intel one has only been around 20 years and they both have 4 beats and they both have the same beat structure and they both come at the end of the commercial. It's some shameful shit Samsung is doing to American iconic companies. I'm glad Apple is not letting them get away with it.

Warning for mild personal attack

Hmm I had heard of this but never looked into what it was. Looks pretty cool, but sounds buggy as hell, and there doesn't appear to be a JB compatible ROM for my TF101.

I haven't used Windows 8 or even looked at it, but I'd have to assume this kind of stuff should work flawlessly on the MS tablets?

You might as well get a regular tablet then.
S-Pen features are proprietary.
If you remove all the Samsung bullcrap, then its no different from a regular tablet.

I haven't kept up with the custom scene on the Galaxy Note much since April, but AFAIK the modders are still having a hard time figuring out S-Pen features on the regular Galaxy Note phone from last year to add to their custom roms.

I was unexcited when this tablet was first announced. I'm still not excited now it's out. The appeal of Samsung to me has always been the cutting edge hardware. Their software and support is average at best. This tablet has meh hardware. In fact, all 10" Android tablets have mediocre hardware. Apple has the exciting hardware in iPad with class leading screen, gpu, battery life, and apps. Unless you have specific need or really love Android, there's no reason to buy 10" Android tablet. 7" is different story. Apple has zero offering and Nexus 7 is the clear choice.

1280x800 is garbage resolution for 10" tablet. It was acceptable in 2011 because there was nothing better but with iPad available with 2048x1536, people should avoid the Android 10" offerings. 10" Android tablets are worth $300 at best and even then I don't know if it's worth it.

Only an idiot would even think it sounds like an intel jingle ripoff. my god. What else will haters come up with?
