listen I have my gnexus sitting right next to me,you dont have to tell me about it.I have spent hours with tech support and went threw 2 phones about it not having signal and not locking on gps and no first hand how hot the thing gets using 4g.

the screen on it also has horrible ghosting that Iv seen on at least 3 so im asuming yours also has it and the better life was so bad verizon gave you a free exteneded battery and cut the pirce in half for people that didnt get it for free when they bought early on release day.

yes vanilia jellybean runs quick and smooth on the nexus and I wished the gs3 was a nexus branded cell but please dont try to tell us that its a better phone than the gs3.

from the leaked jellybean touchwiz rom it looks like the gs3 will surpass the nexus and the ics version is just as quick anyways threw having a much more powerful soc

He didn't say it was a better phone, he just said he's not impressed.

I have a Galaxy Nexus, no ghosting, no problems with signal or GPS. Yeah, it eats battery like a mofo, but I can use it all day without worrying about how I use my phone, so no problems here. Gets warm, but not to where I think it's eating a hole in my pocket or anything.

Regardless, for the OP, I wouldn't ebay the Nexus for an S3, I'd just hang on to it for whatever the next big thing is going to be. Or call verizon and complain about "signal issues." 😉

are you on 4g lte with it? the cell would run cool on 3g and cold on wifi but forget it when it was on 4g

I'll tell you what I want to tell you and you can either read it or not. You have a Verizon GNex... I have the HSPA/GSM GNex. They are two very different phones in terms of the radios.

I have no doubt that a LTE device will eat more battery than a HSPA/GSM-only device.

As I said, I will tell you what I want to tell you.. and you can either read it or not. You can agree with it or not. I don't much care... but I'll be damned if you're going to tell me what I can and cannot say.

Yes, I think the HSPA/GSM Galaxy Nexus is a better phone for me than the S3. I had the S3 and was not impressed by it.

Too bad if you disagree.

4G right now, downloading a movie for later. It's warm, but not uncomfortably warm or what I'd call hot. It's not ideal, and I'm sure the S3 is superior in that regard, but it's not like it's so hot an egg is going to cook on it or something.

By comparison, my Droid would get significantly hotter when downloading larger files or using GPS.

edit: On Verizon, and LOL at zsdersw, I suppose he is saying the Nexus is better 🙂, which for him may be true (and for me, it's close to a wash, but on the side of being true).

If I were picking a brand new phone right now and choosing between the 2, I'd probably lean towards the S3. If I were given the chance to sell my Nexus to subsidize the purchase of an S3, I would not do it. And just in terms of appearance, I think the Nexus is a much better looking phone than the S3.

I heard they got another modem firmware so im sure they are a little better now but that and the gps was driving me nuts.

I remember turning around and going back to verizon the day I got it and not having service and they had to reset my towers to get it to work.

took like 30 min as the techsupport had no clue what to do.

going from the LTE nexus to an lte gs3 was a game changer in battery life and signal strength. You probably wont believe this but Im on a stock gs3 now and got 18h so far with 2 hours of on screen time and still at 55% battery life,I dont think I ever got over 10 hours on my nexus and never more than 2 hours of on screen time.

S3 is worlds better than the Galaxy Nexus. I'm regularly tempted to pay $650+ retail to upgrade from the GN to the S3.

In order to root the Nexus, you have to unlock the nexus, which is what probably wiped the data. Rooting doesn't wipe anything.
And if he's unlocked and rooted already, he might as well try running TiBu and installing a ROM before dropping hundreds on a new device.

wait you got a gs3 from them?I too had serious issues at first and then just gave up and lived with it.

did you get to keep you unlimted data plan also?

Well they saw the history of multiple Nexus activations and sim card swaps and I think that's why they let me do it.

Yes I kept my unlimited data. Didn't use an upgrade, it was a warranty replacement.

thats awesome bro,I couldnt take the signal issues I had since my area has 4g but its just weak enough to swap back and forth and the cell would just freak out and not conect to anything.

I paid 500 for a week old s3 and Im selling my old nexus tom for 225.I should of pushed for a gs3 as they even suggested my sim card was bad even tho its working fine in my gs3 now lol

I have a GN and a GS2 right now and used to have a GS3. I would take the GS3 over the GN. Im sure the new GN will be out in a couple months

I believe it, and I wish mine got better battery life. However, since I can use mine normally (for the most part) and it will survive the day, there is no real reason for me to spend money on a new phone. Were I to get an S3, the biggest difference for me would be that I'd get home with 70% battery life instead of 30%. I wouldn't use it more, play more games, or do anything else differently. The weekends or trips are a little different, but that accounts for a very small percentage of my time.

I hope that's an exaggeration, because the S3 is not that much better than the Nexus in battery life. A Razr Maxx would make your statement true.

The point was just that increased battery life would be nice, but wouldn't really make much of a difference in terms of my personal usage. My old job, where I could sync my phone with the exchange server and blah blah blah, perhaps. Currently, I don't really need a smartphone aside from the convenience factor. It's like a gym membership for me, I'm just keeping it because of my unlimited plan. 😀

I got bored with the S3 very quickly. I'm 100% satisfied with the GN.

That doesn't make any sense.

How do you get bored with the S3 and still be 100% satisfied with the GN.

Why aren't you bored with the GN and satisfied with the S3?

There is some sort of logical disconnect here.

SG3 is a better phone, but do yourself a favor and root it so you can enjoy Jelly Bean the way it was meant to be experienced.

Remember, the GNex on VZ doesn't even have JB either unless you root and install it yourself.

I personally will never get a Nexus phone. I don't care for stock android, I prefer the L&F of Samsung's UX. I've been using it since the Galaxy S Vibrant.

I love my GN. The GS3 is a bit too large for day to day use unless I'm mostly stationary. Also, its nice to have a phone without locked bootloaders and bloatware. I have yet to find a satisfactory rom that didn't end up pissing me off. Vanilla is good. The only thing I dislike is not having an SD slot.

No Galaxy S3 has a locked bootloader. The Verizon one was cracked months ago.

Install a clean TW AOSP hybrd Rom. Its effectively stock with the enhancements of TW.

I'd prefer the GN over the SGS3 for the superior AOSP ICS/JB UI alone. My only major complaints with the GN are more directed at Verizon than the phone. Now that all the GSM Nexus S and GNexs, and the Sprint Nexus S 4G and GNex have been updated to JellyBean, the Verizon GNex is the only one left on JB. Absolutely pathetic on Verizon to drop the ball yet again with the GN.

Come the holidays, I'll likely be moving to a GSM Nexus device on a different carrier.
