Give me your input, is the S3 worth ebaying the nexus? I have Verizon, so I get essentially none of the google's fast software upgrade. ICS came about 6 months too late.

Instead of getting another Nexus as my warranty replacement, I convinced Verizon to give me an S3. The only reason why I did it is because in a few months (or however long it takes) when the Note 2 or HTC Note clone is released, the S3 will sell for more than the Nexus.

Oooh I suppose I could try it, my 4G keeps dropping out as is.

nexus is a developer phone, root and enjoy the multiple jelly bean roms out there.

Also on Verizon GNEX but have been rooted 2nd day I got it, have been on Jelly bean for the past few months.

Bought my daughter the SG3 but cringed that it ws still on ICS. It also has a locked boot loader I think. But dont get me worng if I had the choice between the two SG3 for its battery life, newer LTE radio and hardware.

Peace

Man, LTE on a Verizon Nexus means your battery life must be shit. Just go get an S3 and install CM10 on it. Should be fine then.

Does the S3 have a fully working hwcomposer yet? I mean if you were into ROMs, Nexus is the way to go, but stock, I do like the Nexus better still.

Without a fully working hwcomposer you won't have a super smooth SGS3. I'm talking from an i9100 perspective, but the i9300 applies too because they're both Exynos. I'm not sure how the US variants are doing as it's a totally different SoC.

Stock, literally every time I tried the ROM thing it wipes all my data... and google backup is mediocre at best.
 Not sure if serious. Titanium Backup (TiBu) is *the* fundamental ROM flasher's tool -- just stick to user apps/data and not system data (though I also back up/restore wifi and bluetooth links without issue).

TiBu + bootloader unlock + Bugless Beast + new JB bootloader/baseband = JB Nexus

And, if you don't like it, you'll at least have TiBu to help transfer your apps/app data to your next phone.

Boot loader has been unlocked on the verizon S3 for a month or so, and there are numerous jellybean ROMs available ever since. I'm on one right now, it's fantastic. Phone has only been out what, 2 months on vzw? Not like S3 users had to wait long.

How'd you do that?

It was going to be my third replacement (signal issues), so I asked if there was anything else we could do besides the standard replacement, guy put me on hold for a few, came back and basically said I could choose between the Rezound, Razr, Razr Maxx, or the 16GB S3. Easy choice.

I came from a nexus to a gs3 and never looked back, running stock now as my first one hit the ground and cracked the screen but on my first one I had it running the leaked official touchwiz jellybean rom and I was scoring 5900-6000 in quadrant without tweaking anyting and not even closing apps down and with stock kernal and no overclocking.

Im waiting until we get a verizon leak to root my new s3 since the other roms came from leaked att and tmobil roms.

Gnex is overrated. It's a pretty trashy phone in regards to reception and battery life. I'd definitely take the S3 over it.

Not in my experience. I get more out of my GNex than a buddy does with his S3... and he's on it less than I'm on mine.

I agree, the thing gets wicked hot using 4g and sucks power like no other.

Mine had horrible ghosting trails on the screen also and the s3 looks 10x better.

Galaxy Nexus is the best looking and most comfortable holding phone I've ever had. The slight curve, the complete glass front with no buttons or wording, it's a beauty that has great form and function.

Unfortunately I just kept running into reception issues (Verizon) so I went to the S3, which is holding me over until the new round of phones.

I've never had heat or power problems with mine.

I was unimpressed by the S3. Jellybean on my GNex is faster than ICS was on the S3.

listen I have my gnexus sitting right next to me,you dont have to tell me about it.I have spent hours with tech support and went threw 2 phones about it not having signal and not locking on gps and no first hand how hot the thing gets using 4g.

the screen on it also has horrible ghosting that Iv seen on at least 3 so im asuming yours also has it and the better life was so bad verizon gave you a free exteneded battery and cut the pirce in half for people that didnt get it for free when they bought early on release day.

yes vanilia jellybean runs quick and smooth on the nexus and I wished the gs3 was a nexus branded cell but please dont try to tell us that its a better phone than the gs3.

from the leaked jellybean touchwiz rom it looks like the gs3 will surpass the nexus and the ics version is just as quick anyways threw having a much more powerful soc

at first I hated my gs3 because Iwas used to vanila jellybean setup and loved the stock icons and the was the app draw looked but after using nova launcher and using the jellybean setup I fell in love with the s3 because I made it look just like my nexus and its running just as smooth with all the cool features samsung added to there rom, like sharing videos and music to tvs and what not.

How long have you been with verizon?

In order to root the Nexus, you have to unlock the nexus, which is what probably wiped the data. Rooting doesn't wipe anything.

correct you can root with no problems but unlocked wipes everything off the cell, that why you do it first chance you get

you can root without loosing data, its the unlock that wipes it
