Galarraga Perfect through 8 + Griffey Retires

How ridiculous would that be? Three perfectos in one year when there were less than 20 in the 120 years before this year.

He was fucking out by a half a step. How in the hell can James Joyce call that safe. I cannot believe it....................... holy shit I do not fucking believe.

Can this be reversed by the league office if reviewed?

griffey had some news or something to say today? was about him falling asleep in the locker room again? aw well who cares, dude was robbed of a perfect game!

😉

😱😱

wow

Hard to say anything other than that.

Stolen right from under him.

Ump literally had the worst angle to view it from, but that's still no excuse - you don't stand at that position without years of experiencing honing your ability to make a call using your depth perception.

People argue moments like that are right there needs to be a replay system on the field - I can't say I agree yet.
Half of the game is all about how it goes down on the field as is.
The game already kind of stretches on longer than it really should - players take too much time.

Hard to say how I really feel about it - half of me, the half that spent half of my life on the diamond, wants the game to remain as is.

Wow, way to fail on the call. A snowcone is a catch is a catch. Should get the benefit of the doubt in the perfect game on the last out. Kind of sucks for the kid and Detroit.

Never heard more boos from a 1 hit shutout, though.

yup. We need to send this thread to Gallaraga's or his manager so that he can enact swift justice on OP.

Hehe, coincidently a bad call by the third base ump happened around the same time in the game I was watching, in favour of my team 🙂 Soo.. moral of the story: Sometimes you win one, sometimes you lose?

No replay review in baseball?

Not on that type of call. Baseball started using replays just recently and it's very limited in what they're allowed to overturn.

Both Joyce and Galaraga took the high road. Joyce took full responsibility for the blown call and apologized and Galaraga accepted with grace.

There's not really any proper way to describe this, but that fucking sucked.

Proud of whole organization tonight. ’Mando handled the situation with more grace than I would have thought possible. Leyland did his job defending his pitcher, but said all the right things regarding Joyce in the postgame. Jackson (whose freaking amazing play will now be forever forgotten) spoke of the beer shower that everyone gave 'Mando in the clubhouse after the game.

No matter what Selig does, this will never be right. He has the power to deem it an out and a perfect game, but I doubt he will. Doesn't really matter anyways. ‘Mando will never have that moment where he embraces his catcher and the entire team piles on. He had his beer shower, but I’m certain it didn’t feel quite the same as it should have.

It's impressive that Galarraga was able to get back on the hill and retire the next batter. So often, pitchers lose their composure after a really bad call.
