Gainward or Visiontek

I may buy a GF3 Ti200. I can get a used Visiontek for $140 shipped or a brand new Gainward new for $150 shipped. Other than overclocking is there any other reason to get the Gainward? More features or maybe it has better quality over the Visiontek? I don't want to spend the extra $10 if there isnt something thats much better than the Visiontek other than overclocking which I wouldnt do anyway untill I needed to.

I wouldn't hesitate spending $10 more to get the new one over the used. Who knows what the former owner did to it. Gainward also has better cooling. It could add to the stability a little.

about how long will the GF3 last before I start seeing that I need to upgrade(not includeing Unreal II)? I would like for it to last at least 6-8 months.

unless the market(gaming drasticly changes) then you should be ok for a year or so if not longer your milage may vary depending on what you need but there are many happy with 2 and three generation video cards and since the ti 200 is based on the gf=3 you will have the best of both worlds.

I say this because if 10.00 seems a make or break price for you then I am assuming that you don't upgrade to the highest or newest products. And as such the gainward is a very respectable card.

Also having a decent gforce 3 card most people will tell you there aren't a lot of games that tax the card to the max.so you should be fine and upgrade when the performance seems slow to you, not because it is the best or newest, because you will be pleasantly suprised at the gains of upgrading🙂

hope this helps

~sigh.... you are not even willing to pay for that $10 for a NEW card? What is wrong with you dude?
It's NEW!.... And it's Gainward... What else can you expect?
It's only $150... The card will be good probably for the rest of the year.... I mean that is if you have a decent system already.

Yeah I have never bought the latest and greatest thing. Wait maybe back when I bought a TNT years ago it was prob the best(Velocity 4400) out but TNT2 was just around the corner. Anyway like I said I prob won't even bother with GF4 Ti series untill GF5 is out. I am always a step behind. Not counting the overclocking abilitys on the Gainward what else does it have to offer thats better than the Visiontek?

Well I am buying it off the forums so I ain't 100% sure its new but the person claims it is in the post.

Here's my suggestion, Anand mentioned that GF4-4200 (equivalent to GF3 Ti200, I mean marketing wise, not performance wise). And its price range like Anand mentioend should be $190ish....
According to Anand, it will be out in another 8 weeks.

Well I went with the Gainward. He told me it was sealed so I got it. Your all right theres no telling what the used one been through 😀. I don't think I will be doing much overclocking untill Unreal II comes anyway then I will have no choice.

Anyway what do you all think I should try and upgrade next? My monitor or something else on my system?

Heres my puny specs:

You'll be glad you got the Gainward.
1. It's new vs. $10 less for an old card.
2. It's a better overclocker with a bit better components on it.
3. It has very nice 2D as well. nVidia cards have been said to have bad 2D, but Gainward has tweaked their drivers/card and have made it alot better than the rest of the competition.

Cheers, sounds like a great mix to me!

I just bought the VisionTek Xtasy 6564 GeForce3 Ti200 from Buy.com for $169.56. But there is a $50 rebate on this card, so it will come out to like $119. I wish I would've seen this thread before ordering it, or I would have bought the Gainward one. But it is now too late to cancel my order.

But my question is that is Gainward that much better than Visiontek? And is VisionTek not overclockable at all??? or just not as good as the Gainward??

thanks.
Slim

If I hadent got the Gainward the Visiontek would be my second pick no dought. I think they are the best 2 GF3 Ti200 cards. I heard all GF2 Ti200 overclock well but none as good as the gainward. Your Visiontek will hit good speeds but prob around 20-30mhz lower than the Gainward on core and memory. I think any GF3 Ti200 owner will be happy with it.

I bought a Visiontek GF2 GTS 64mb OEM and have never out of the 6+ months I had it have any problems with it. Now if the Gainward was used and the Visiontek was new I would be going with the Visiontek.

BTW do you all think my monitor needs to be upgraded worse or my CPU? I can upgrade one of the 2 in a couple weeks but will have to wait a few months before I upgrade the other. See my sig for specs.

Thanks for the input.

well, for your monitor or cpu upgrade, I don't know much at all, but I think you should upgrade your monitor.

I had 15", but recently upgraded to 19", cause I could find a good deal for it at the same price I could've gotten a 17". Man, you can't explain the difference. It's like you are in a whole new world, and it's soooo much better.
