Gainward Geforce Ti4200 causing display problems

I've been running my Gainward Geforce Ti4200 in my system for about a year now but it recently has died on me. A few months ago the problem started, my computer would boot normally, I would see the system post and the windows loading screen, but after that it would flash the windows logon screen for a second then go black. This problem has gradually gotten worse. At first it only happened once in a while and I could usually get it to work by booting into safe mode first then rebooting normally. Now it's at the point where it occurs every time I turn on my system. A video driver update and a fresh install of windows XP Pro failed to resolve the problem. I've temporarily replaced my Gainward video card with an older Hercules Geforce 2MX card and my computer works fine now. I contacted Gainward tech support twice and have not gotten any response. Anybody had this happen to them, or have any suggestions on how to fix it?

Well at first Gainward was not answering the tech support requests I sent using the form on their web page so I was starting to look for possible fixes, but I finally got through to them and got an RMA number. So word of advice, don't use Gainward's tech support form, they never reply!
