I got this same card from a trade. It's awesome. Overclocks like crazy. I'm pretty new to the whole overclocking thing, and if it was any other card, I'm sure I would have fried it by now. I got it up to 315/615 without too much trouble, but after running for a few hours, started seeing artifacts. it's running very stable at 285/585. 🙂

Nice.. but I think i'll hold a month.. I have a really strange feeling there is going to be another huge sale on graphics cards...

i doubt it, supplies of graphics chips are low right now and demand is really high...
i read this on HardOCP or something like that.

edit:
linky

Weren't Gainward ti4200s the cards that had some issues? I remember reading about some Gainward card that a lot of people RMA'd and received even more faulty cards in return. Just a heads up, those issue might be completely resolved by now. It's a decent deal otherwise.

You are correct. I have a friend who got this card and he was getting BSODs and funky artifacts during games. He went back to a GF2 and all the problems went away. Put the card in another system, it worked just fine. I guess he read that Gainward was using some bad RAM in their cards to cut prices.

Hopefully they fixed that problem for the 50 people who just ordered this card 😉

True, but you never know which retailer might have a crazy sale dispite market conditions. I'm in the market for a Ti4200 myself. I just hope the geforce5 series pushes the price down on the geforce4 series like it did with the geforce3 series.

The bad gainward 4200's I believe had all black/gray capacitors on the back of the card. I believe the new ones and the fixed ones will have at least a couple green colored ones. These cards in general fo very cheap on egay comparatively because people are so afraid of getting a bad one that someone didn't want to rma again.

I purchased the Ti4200 (MSI version which PCMag loved in their review - see:

PC Magazine's Graphic Card Shootout (MSI Ti4200 page). This card has a faster memory clock speed than competitors and comes with DVI cable, games, Video Out, capture hardware/software, etc. I purchased it for +- $100 a few months ago; its AGP 4x, not 8X, but there isn't a discernable difference in speed between the two.

My stable clock settings are: 608/311 without any tweaking - probably do faster, but my framerates are fast enough for me for now.

Just my $.02 - have fun.

I read on Ars that Nvidia is having trouble getting enough product out the door, and same with ATI, so I wouldn't expect too much in the way of price reductions in the near future.
