Hello,

I just got a gainward geforce 3 and windows XP prof., however, when i installed the drivers for the video card, i got a message saying that the driver wasnt WHQL. something about not being certified driver by microsoft or something and that it could make my system unstable. i clicked install anyway.

heres where the problems start, every time i start windows, it freezes when it loads my desktop. have to pull the plug. So i put in a gainward geforce 2 card that i had lying around and everything works fine.

Is there a way to fix this, really would like the geforce 3 in my rig.

thanks in advance

What drivers are you using? (What version??) You just installed WinXP Professional? Upgrade or clean install? You had what video card installed before the GeForce3?

downlaod the drivers from nvidia and dont use the ones on the cd. I never had any probs with my gainward on xp. In XP whenever I install any of my drivers it says that they are not MS Digitally Signed and it asks if I want to Continue or Stop Installation. So that really shouldn't cause the problem. Just try to use the drivers form the nvidia website. If that doesnt work put the card in someone elses system and see if that works. If not you might have a faulty card.

ok...i reinstalled win XP and then installed the nividia drivers from there website...getting the same thing:

"the driver for the display device was unable to complete a drawing operation"

the card is a gainward geforce 3 ti 200. 128 Mb ram

is it possible that one of my BIOS settings is causing this?
mobo is an Epox 8K3A

dont think it's a faulty card because it works fine without the driver. when i install the driver, thats when i get problems

thanks

I couldn't get it to work on my new install of XP with the provided drivers either...I had to download the latest but then it was a cinch. Just turn off all BIOS AGP-related settings (e.g. fast writes) and try another set of drivers.

I have a regular GeForce3 (by Gainward) and it works flawlessly with the drivers from nVIDIA website!

i had a feeling that this may be the reason for the lockup. i'am not to familiar with BIOS settings for the video card as well as the RAM settings. i will give it a shot and let you know how things work out. hopefully, if i can get it stabe and boot to desktop without freezing, i can install the downloaded nvidia drivers.

anyhow, here is the video card i am trying to install:

GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT GeForce 3 Ti200 128MB (NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200 GPU), Power Pack Golden Sample, ( 4ns 128MB DDR. ). Overclocking enhanced performance mode. TV-Out. Retail box. Please see images. Mfr's P/N: V87TI200 (128MB) Model#: GF3TI200 TI450-128MB

the description says "Overclocking enhanced performance mode", do u think i may be overclocking the card right out of the box? than it may be the BIOS settings that i need to adjust

anyone actually running this card with an epox 8K3A? if so, what AGP settings are u using?
thanks again for all the previous suggestions

WooHoo!!!!

problem solved. heres what i did. i was reading around and turns out that more people than i expected were having this problem. turns out that the newest nvidia detonator drivers dont get along with Win XP and the Epox 8K3A (i have rev. 1.0)

so the solution was to simply get the older drivers (ver. 23.11 and 23.12). the latest drivers that nvidia has out are the 28.32 drivers which will cause XP to lock up, like in my case.

downloaded the 23.11 drivers from the nvidia site, installed, now no more problems...woohoo.

look's like i wont need the newegg RMA number afterall.
just wanted to post this for others who are having the same problem to see.

thanks
