Gainward Cards a Thing of the Past in the USA

Like many I have been trying to find a nice 6800 GT PCI-E card, and figured Gainward was sure to make one. Indeed, Gainward's global websight mentions just such a card, but the USA site didn't mention it. So I called Gainward USA on the hope that they might spill on when the cards will be available. The answer I got -- "NEVER." Apparently, Gainward will no longer be selling any video cards in the USA. :( I asked what exactly they will be selling, and apparently they are going to focus on multimedia products. The rep was unable to tell me if this meant Gainward was abandoning video cards worldwide, but regardless it is certainly a loss.

Sure it is. Now we won't have to put up with their confusing naming conventions for their products.

Everything was Ultra to them.

Now let's slay Asus. How many V9999 models do they have again?

The Gainward CoolFX 6800U is by far and away the best single video card on the planet. :(

That sucks. I was really hoping to get their 6600GT. I emailed them several times about the card and where to buy them and never ever heard back. I guess that shows they aren't into supporting their US customers.

Personally, I don't understand why a global company like that would choose to cut off such a big market.

ELSA and Creative did the same thing. But I could care less about Creative.

They're probably tired of the GPU supply shortage from Nvidia and ATI. And they don't anticipate it getting any better? Just a guess. So they will just use all the chips they get for Europe.

Guess.

Yes their naming is confusing, but ASUS products are great, I can tell you 'cos I own a V9999GT (6800GT 256mb)

LOL.. I just think that its very easy to name a product to represent what it actually is. When a company comes out with these crazy names, for example:

A 6800nu 325/700 Product name = 6800
A 6800nu 325/710 Suddenly this product becomes an Ultra in some companies naming scheme.

I can't help but believe that its the company's intention to deceive customers.

Perfect example here and there are numerous others.

here is another.

Its why I would never buy a Gainward card.. Not because I couldn't tell the difference myself, but because it seems sneaky to me. That's why I wouldn't buy from them.

Perhaps when they say multimedia products they mean vid cards with fully functional PVP for video encoding&decoding plus in addition, soundstorm2 audio encoding&decoding. Huang has dropped some hints that SS would come back in a form that would be surprising, so who knows? Whomever does can't say anyways ;)
