"I'm sure many of you are aware of Gainward?s new ?goes like hell? cards which can only be described as their ?Golden Sample? brand on steroids.

It denotes a special version of a specific card that is not just heavily overclocked, but also changes the memory specification (the actual chips are swapped out for faster IC?s). This is then stamped on a custom designed red PCB. Gainward currently have a 6800GS GLH and a 7800GT GLH both based on these principles, and believe me, they are stupendously fast, easily the fastest in there respective categories by a mile.

This brings us neatly to a new card allegedly coming from Gainward soon, a 7800 GTX 512MB ?Goes like hell?. This is not a suped up 256MB GTX, this is a suped up GTX 512MB, the card that is nowhere to be seen in the retail channel and is clocked at 550/1700MHz.

Gainward?s GLH version is rumoured to be clocked somewhere around 600-650 MHz on the core and a mind blowing 2.2 GHz on the memory. If this turns out to be more than a rumour it will most likely be faster than a 7900 GTX."

Here's a link to the website posting this story of a new video card coming out from Gainward: http://www.pureoverclock.com/story434.html. Does anybody here know if this website has a good reputation? Anybody have any reason to not believe this? Thanks.

the memory sounds BS to me. most cards dont overclock to that speed with 1.1 ns chips. I am not aware of faster Gddr3 chips being available by any company.

2.2ghz~.91 ns memory. Dosent exist in any decent quantity yet and i dont think any memory company has any for purchase for the public.

The 7900GTX will most likely use the 1.1ns 900mhz RAM like the GTX512. OR it could use 1.2ns 800mhz ram. It will probably NOT be 2ghz ram.

The fact that the rumered memory bandwith is LESS THEN the current GTX512 probably means a switch to the 1.2ns 800mhz RAM because of quantity issues with the 1.1ns parts.

2.2ghz memory isn't even on Samsung's roadmap. GDDR3 is ending at 2ghz, then they're moving to GDDR4. Any GDDR3 faster than 2ghz is simply going to be made from speed binned parts by an OEM.

Wow, I haven't been following video cards for the last 6 months.. the fact that they even have 1.1ns video RAM these days is pretty impressive. It wasn't so long ago that 50ns RAM was considered the fastest out there. I think the future is probably massive amounts of embedded DRAM / SRAM right in the GPU itself.

50ns? Was this 10 years ago? Or you meant 5.0ns? My Radeon 8500 from August 2001 has 3.6ns ram.

Why even publish such a rumour in the first place? Man, my respect for journalism has plummeted in the past year.

That was the same site saying the 7900GTX was gonna use 2.0GHz memory... then just a while ago, they said it was a mistake, and it would be using 1600MHz!! LOL

hahaha...if there is any truth to the rumors, then i'm sure the availablity of such card would "goes like hell" too!

Nah, I meant like S3 ViRGE days.. seems like yesterday.

At 1.1ns, I would think that inter-chip latencies would start becoming significant (0.5ns?), hence the need for the on-chip DRAM.

Which would mean that the extra "MHz" are just for show, it's better to have slightly slower clockspeeds and better timings on RAM, as shown with DDR vs DDR2.

your not still buying the whole...."its Samsungs fault they dident have any chips"
The very fact that the X1900XTX AND the cheaper XT has 1.1ns modules puts that to rest. because as far as i can tell, those cards are as common as an old lady driving a japanese car.
