Bah, this is the only IM that comes on the CS lab machines at school. I use it for ICQ.
However, I get constant messages and requests for adds from a bunch of random hoes and foreigners. It's real annoying to be even online to talk to friends when I get bombarded with those requests and people trying to talk.
So I set Privacy options to "Allow only the users on my buddy list", which seems like I could only receive messages/events from my contact lists. Yet, GAIM will either just completely ignore the setting and when I go back to privacy, it will be back to default 'allow all', or it will "save" the setting (though it always loses it when I close GAIM) yet still allow me to receive messages and events/spam Hell I got two of them as I was typing this message.
Anyone encounter this issue and have any way to completely ignore this spam?
Or does GAIM just completely blow? I can't believe anyone can like this. Not only does it have aformentioned issue, it has next to no configuration options, it has a absolute crap interface and message window that can't be modified, and you CAN'T go away/not online without it having the away message always up on the screen. Like in any IM program that was made by someone with a brain, you can change your status, type the message and hit OK, and you can use GAIM normally as if you were online (but you are away to not get bothered by some people). But when I'm in the CS labs working on stuff I'm always online thanks to sweet GAIM.
I wish I could install Miranda or some other IM program, but they are almost all RPM-based thus I don't have root privledges to install anything (thank god JEdit is Java/jar so I don't need to use their garbage text editors like gedit or whatever).
