Gah! Scratch in my monitor!

I got a ViewSonic P95f+ 19" monitor for my birthday last year from Gateway.com since they had the lowest price.

15 days after I had gotten it, I went to a LAN party and I stupidly didn't cover my screen. It scraped up against my computer's edge and left a pretty large scratch in the screen.

It was 15 days, I called, and they said that after 14, they couldn't replace it. I've basically been living with this huge scratch for a year now, and it's really gotten me fed up.

Is there anything I can do about this? Someone told me you can like fill it with something and then file it down, but that doesn't sound logical to me.

Thanks a lot guys.

Sorry nothing you can do. That someone that told you you can fill it with something and then file it down is full of crap. That would just make the surface of an LCD even WORSE and probably scratch it even more.

How deep is the scratch? If it's shallow, you might try toothpaste and a soft cloth to try and buff it to a more acceptable finish.

CarrotStick: That monitor is a CRT not an lcd.
The solution you heard of from your friend is available for cars. There are professional services that do repairs on windshields for scratches and cracks. I don't know if you could apply the same to a monitor.

You scratched it and tried to get the selling company to take it back?

MIGHT be useful advice (also try monitor scratch in the search box there)

I'm sure I saw some page about some specifically designed wax, article had some pics and showed a scratch, which tey covered in the wax and then rubbed/cleaned it off so only wax was left was in the scratch. IIRC the guy said it was not as good as new, but was far less distracting. Cant think of where I saw it though 🙁

Yeeesh. They're pretty deep...

Maybe I should just sell the thing on eBay for a good amount under retail and see what happens... buy a new one...

not sure.

Oh, I'm sure that someone would love to have a monitor with a big scratch on the screen.

Gives it character.

Yeah, stupidity costs $$$. And in this case, your best solution is to sell the monitor to someone who doesn't care and buy a new one.
