Gah! People are such sheep.

My company uses computer based training. Nothing noteworthy there. Well until now that is when they slipped in a "course" that gives them virtually unfettered access to anything about you. That includes vague items such as" lifestyle and mode of living" for starters. There was no option to refuse. I simply refused to do it and told my boss so. He was ok with it. Everyone at my location did it because everyone else did.

Fumbducks. 😛

Facebook. Look no further for evidence of how sheep-y people can be.

1984 needs to be required reading.

Can you explain more? I don't understand what kind of "course" gives your company access to info about you. Did they ask you for passwords to your email or something?

Instead of training and asking questions on the material you the course just asks personal questions instead I'm guessing.

The following course is about applications for programmable logic controllers in manufacturing. Before we begin, we need to know some things about you
1 - what is your social security number
2 - what is your mother's maiden name
3 - what is your credit card number
4 - what is the expiration date on your credit card

:awe:

There was a story in the local paper a couple weeks ago, the library system was adding more info to the ID cards of employees and sent around a form for everyone to fill out with height and weight. One librarian (who had worked there for decades) did not want to disclose her weight, so she told her manager she refused to fill out the form. Everything seemed fine, until the word came down to let her go. She was fired on the spot and asked to clean out her stuff by the end of the day.

I know, w t f.

Brian: Please, please, please listen! I've got one or two things to say.
The Crowd: Tell us! Tell us both of them!
Brian: Look, you've got it all wrong! You don't NEED to follow ME, You don't NEED to follow ANYBODY! You've got to think for your selves! You're ALL individuals!
The Crowd: Yes! We're all individuals!
Brian: You're all different!
The Crowd: Yes, we ARE all different!
Man in crowd: I'm not...
The Crowd: Sch!

On that note... how about all the forms we are asked to fill out that ask for our soc. sec. #? There is no reason anyone needs your ss# unless it's the IRS and you are paying your taxes.

I don't give my ss# on those forms and rarely do they come back and insist that I do.

I googled for "librarian fired for" and this guy's story was the third result

In Urbandale, Iowa librarian Lisa Bonifas was fired for refusing to tell her employer how much she weighed.

There are a lot of other interesting good results for this search.
-Librarian fired for reporting child porn. link. The government (library) now officially supports child porn, I guess.
