Go to a doctor.......... you may have an ear infection. Those suck. You may have to take Antibiotics to clear it up.

Is this a persistant problem with your ears? If so a visit to an ETN doctor may be in order.

yeah...go to the doctor. I had a lot of problems with ear infections when I was a kid. An antibiotic will clear it up in a few days (but take the whole dose of course).

I usually pinch my nose and blow air as if it were plugged. Usually that clears up pressure in my ears. I remember having an ear infection as a kid, it hurt so much, eventhe slightest movement would cause my ear to hurt. My eye infection was worse, constant watering, ugh.

Go see a doctor though.

I have Eustachian tube issues which make blocking common. There is no infection at least not yet.

Antibiotics are not usually recommended.

its after 4:00 AM and I can't sleep. This pain is driving me nuts. I am going to take another Tylenol.

I was only prescribed AB's when both my ears got infected. I had a sinus problem which cause my ears to get infected.

Have you seen an ENT (ear, nose throat) doctor before? This is the area they know........ could help.

my sinuses are fine.

Yes, I have seen ENT doctors before and that is how I found out about my condition. It was really bad when I was a teenager.

this is something I will just have to live with.

I have this as well, it is annoying as hell.

How quickly does yours clear up with decongestants? I'm going on week 4 over here.

Sorry to hear about your condition. It sounds miserable. :(

As for the docs, is there nothing they can do?

to answer the questions:

mine clear up after about 3 days or so. If it doesn't clear up after a week, my doctor then starts checking for infection.

not too much they can do. i can get new tubes put in but they don't last long.

no drops that I am aware of.

one ear has clear up on its own. the other still hurts.

If it gets bad enough the ear drum will burst. You'll lose hearing in that ear for a bit then it'll be painful to hear loud noises for a few months then it'll be normal again.

Edit: was assuming it was an infection ymmv

I had a really bad infection back in 1990. That was just awful. My eardrum was pierced which allowed the puss to come out and reduce the pain and pressure. Antibiotics helped clear it up.

I know your pain. I had to have tubes put in a few years ago for the same problem.
I occasionally still get the clogged tube and my ENT has be doing the pinched nose and blow thing.

btw it's pretty gross when the puss comes out your ear, isn't it?

yes. It was a milky white colour. Yuck.

Why don't they last very long? And how long do they last?
when I was told what was wrong, they said the tubes would dissolve after a year. I have not bothered to look into it since.

Not dissolve. The tubes are pushed out as time goes by and come out naturally.

However, the tubes are not meant to be permanent. Apparently when you wear them a year, even after they take them out, the problem can be completly solved. I had 2 perfect years. Then I started to smoke again and I got one ear clogged again. So they put one back in right in the doctors office. It was forced out by the pressure after only a month, but it fixed the problem. As long as I don't smoke my ears stay ok.

So, I would advise reconsidering tubes if you are under the impression that the problem returns after the tubes come out, and they come out after a year.
In fact, the tubes can be a permanent solution.

Dude..you're NOT supposed to put the cigarettes in your ears...

Ears are for breathing during cunnilingus.

Everyone knows this.

He doesn't have wax buildup he has eustachian tube dysfunction. Has nothing to do with wax in the ears, though its a common misconception.
very true.

I will look into the tube thing soon.
