I've been searching for hours and I wanna scream because I can't find such simple information.

USA to China: What goods can I bring out of the US and into China? What goods can I NOT bring? Quantity restrictions? Paperwork?

China to South Korea: What goods can I bring out of China and into Korea? What goods can I NOT bring? Quantity restrictions? Paperwork?

South Korea to Japan: What goods can I bring out of Korea and into Japan? What goods can I NOT bring? Quantity restrictions? Paperwork?

Japan to USA: What goods can I bring out of Japan and into the USA? What goods can I NOT bring? Quantity restrictions? Paperwork?

I'm having so much trouble because information that I find usually has nothing to do with just travelers (no importation of nuclear devices, explosives, etc), only pertains to food, or government websites are so badly designed that I can't find information on anything.

What are you importing/exporting? Aside from food and firearms, most things are fine. I doubt you'll have to do any more paperwork. You'll probably just have to pay duty.

Bad: Food, fire wood (...I know, I know), guns, rabid dogs.
Good: Everything else?

What about types of food? I know that all meats are basically a no-no, but my Japanese buddy wants salsa. What about small knives like a Leatherman multitool? Aren't there quantity restrictions? Some people like to buy a lot of DVDs in China (I personally have no reason or desire to, but it's just an example). Bringing back 10 DVDs is fine, but things start to get hairy after 20 DVDs or something.

Those are fine details you'd have to discuss with someone at the airport on their side, IMO. I know fruit and vegetables are generally not allowed, uh...you'd have to pay duty on anything that will be resold (basically anything you buy large quantities of).

Generally all raw foods are no good and other foods are frowned upon - especially leaving China or Korea. Forget about the pocket knife, you're asking for serious trouble there. Tobacco is ok. Like I said though, call your airline and ask these questions.

Multi tools are NOT allowed anymore.
Check it in the baggage.

Errr... wait. That's what I mean. Are multitools in checked baggage allowed for international travel?

I've read that weapons are not allowed to be brought out of China or out of Japan or somesuch. Bah, I think I'll just go to Walmart and buy like a little fake swiss army knife with a one inch blade or something.

Question..why do you need to bring a knife with you? Just call your airline for the last freakin time.
