I'm a rough duty user, so it never occurs to me to spend any more than the minimum on a phone. I wear them out too quickly. The guy at the phone store was showing off his slider qwerty keyboard thing, I LOLed and said I'd break that in week tops.

I want a very phone with minimum functionality, durable and cheap. I don't want it to be a mini laptop.

QFT. I don're really like to use my laptop either, when compared to a nice monitor, mouse, keyboard, and good ergonomics. If I want to type crap I use a workstation:p

Be jealous of those with the iJuke, not only does it make and receive phone calls...you can outjuke your other opponents with inferior phones!!!!!!

This is worse than the killernic, it's marketing gone insane. Sad part is it works.

Watch me move, watch me move, watch me out dance you with my cell phone. Bizzzoow!

It's like Bose, but worse.

Usually people worrying about how others are trying to be cool, aren't so cool themselves.

It's the 00's people love gadgets.

Phones are just another hobby as computers are. I got into the scene 3 years ago, when phones were in the Razr age. Phones are a trend now. But ofr course some people find its uses.

I like phones before it went popular, so I'm not whore :)

yea but I used to need a little bag to carry everything. I had my camera, the IPod, a regular phone, and a phone for text messaging and emails and stuff like that. 4 things. Now I just grab my iPhone, grab my wallet, and jump in my car and go. The iPhone substitues for keys to my car too. Its amazing, its the meers.

God I hate commercials.

I used to think this way. But, I now use my cell as my home number...so all my contacts are on my phone. I used to have an updated piece of paper with friends and family addresses, anniversaries, and bdays...its on my phone now, and it reminds me so I dont forget. I used to use an old fasioned calandar to write down appointments and stuff (and hope I looked at it before my appointment)..now I use my phone. I used to have an iPod...I just threw a 4 gig flash card in my phone and Im set.

I dont know. I find it VERY convenient to have everything in one place. Im disorganized as it is and its nice to have everything accessible. I also use google maps 2 or 3 times/week on my phone to find movie theatres, restaraunts, or anything if Im driving around and want to find something.

Having a smart phone isnt for everyone, I know. But it has made MY life MUCH easier.

people don't understand the benefit until they get into a Blackberry. There is a reason they are called Crackberrys. I have one for my job, but usually just carry my SLVR when I am out and not on call. I don't use my phone for music, but the camera is priceless as well as having access to the internet.

when i worked for a wireless ISP i begged the company to give me a blackberry or a motoQ. i was the tech for a service area and really, really could have used a phone like that. they wouldnt budge. another tech in another area got one and it was *very* handy

i wouldnt need one for my life now and just have a kyocera strobe because i text a bit, but for some people theyre great

I bought a VX9900 early this year (I refuse to call it the enV) thinking that I would use the qwerty keyboard to get online. The VX9900 gets great battery life (try going a week without charging your Blackberry) and is slimmer than the big boys. It does have a crappy web browser, however, but now that I think about it I only use it to check movie times, look up phone numbers, settle arguments, or find addresses. I really have no desire to check my email (though I can in a pinch) or browse the web away from a computer. Even if it had a better browser I don't think I'd care so much about using it. Not to mention the cost SERVICE!!! It's astronomical!

While I understand your post and truly see where you're coming from...to call me out on my hobbies. Just as any one of us could make the same statement about anything else about another's' interest...

It's the marketing onslaught that I don't agree with. That somehow by having the latest gadget makes you cool. You can't buy cool.

Folks can and should spend their money as they want/value. I just don't like the marketing, but like I said...it works.

'cool' itself is just marketing. so saying you can't buy cool is an oxymoron.

People like features.
Think of a featureless world. It would be a very bland one indeed.
Cellphones were meant to make calls. Yes.
But cars were meant to get you from one place to another faster.
Then why paint them? Or put radios in them. Or bigger better faster engines. Leather seats? Why?
Same goes for almost everything.

You can pry my iPhone out of my cold, dead hand. I don't give a rats ass whether it's cool or not.
The interface is fantastic and it does everything I want. I've had a few smart phones and PDAs and this is the first one I actually USE.
And it's surprisingly rugged, I've dropped it on concrete with no ill effects. Sure the hype was over the top but for the most part it delivers.

You just don't get it and people like you need to cease to exist(otherwise how would I make money by buying phones low and selling them high :p )

I like my Shadow. I can check emails, get directions and realtime traffic updates. I can slo listen to music or watch a movie if I'm stuck waiting somewhere. And if I have to I can use it as a modem for my laptop.

ill have a smartphone when my employer gets one for me. i dont like the idea of paying more than $0 for a phone and $15/month for service. family plan ftw.

i strongly considered something with gps, but when i saw the price... bah. an atlas is cheaper.

When you try to make that argument it almost makes it more meaningful to get uber cell phones. It's to everyone's benefit that they can use a camera, gps, mp3 player, smartphone, pda, blah blah all in their pocket. There's no one saying you can't have those things or can't use them.

On the other hand cars are used to get from A to B, but there are traffic laws. Getting a V-8 will let you get up to 65 faster, but Im sure any econobox is capable of speeding down the highway at 85 as well. So it makes less sense to ricing out your car than to overclock your computer because it's not like a cop will write you a ticket for going 25% over stock clock.

Anyways, I'm happy with my feature-full phone. Most people who don't understand why we want all these features don't use these features, and so just because you can't see why people use texts or internet on their phones, or whatever, doesn't mean it's useless. You just haven't seen the light yet.

I have an old phone. It makes calls, it stores names/numbers/addresses, it can send text messages and go on the internet. No mp3s, no touch screen, no email, no wi-fi, no camera, no bluetooth.

It does what I want.

I had a Treo 650 for a while. It had a phone, bluetooth, high speed internet, camera, mp3s, blah blah blah. About the only useful feature was email.

I'll stick with my old phone.
