Honestly I'm not a PS3 fan but I wouldn't say it's doomed. Still, my friends who want a console I steer towards the 360 simply because of the available titles...
Quick comparison, in the first year of the PS3 the following "good" games have/will be released for each system:
PS3: Uhh...Resistance and uhh...maybe Heaven Sword which I hear is reeeeally short? Oh, and Oblivion which had already been out on the 360 for months when it came out...GTA is on both...
Xbox 360: GoW, Halo 3, Forza 2, Assassins Creed, The Orange Box, Mass Effect, PGR4, Army of Two, CoD 4, and several others I'm sure I've forgotten.
I understand that PS3 is in it's "infancy stages" but come on, mayhaps a few decent games are in order?

btw, Assassins Creed, Army of Two, and Call of Duty 4 are all releasing on the PS3 the same day as the 360 versions. Orange Box will be released in December.
Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted and Haze are PS3 exclusives that will be released at the end of the month and next month, respectively.

mass effect is going to be the game to own, and I will miss not being able to play it. Unless, of course, my roomie gets it.
Even if he is kind of a bitch, I can see where he's coming from. It's a giant waste of time to take this huge effort to learn all of this new architecture that's just going to be replaced in 3-5 years. At least the 360 is based off PC architecture so the stuff he learns can be used many times in the future instead of once.

Gabe is a bitter individual, and this is exactly the kind of thing he would say, and has said in the past. John Carmack has said the exact same thing about PS3 development. they just don't like learning new hardware. Carmack is more respected even though the past games have sucked, but has said plenty of idiotic things in the past couple of years.
this is why it was good when consoles were nothing like PCs. Console games stayed on consoles, PC games stays on PCs. Console developers didn't really complain about learning new coding methods, as it was expected.

Maybe it isn't laziness..maybe they don't like developing for it because it is totally different and takes more time, resources, and money.
Sony was warned about this when Cell was first discussed as being planned for the PS3.
I'm sure they'll get it easier to work with in the future but how much are they going to lose in the present.
