My only trouble was due to the massive volume at the HL2 launch. Never had any trouble since.

I have to say, i love Steam. I just wished they would lower the prices of games some, but i think Steam is fantastic. I love the fact that all my games are linked to an account, so that if i ever want to play that game again, i don't have to dig up the CDs or registration key... all i need to do is log into Steam and download it, whether it's today, or years from now.

Steam sucks for dial up users ...

and by definition, "Steam" is a *drip under pressure* 😛

😀

i never replay games from years ago and keep excellent track of my CDs and Keys
--Steam is completely useless for me and brings me no benefit whatsoever ...

You guys are such sony haters... The company sucks but the playstation is awesome 🙂 ... All the cool games like metal gear solid , devil may cry , god of war , final fantasy , dragon quest and so many others

I need a console that will have loads of serious game and Nintendo Wii isn't that console. I don't think XBOX 360 will ever get the huge support form japanese developers like i would want them for.

See if Sony is out the picture and 360 don't sell in Japan and Wii isn't looked at as a serious game developing platform. Every one looks towards god damn DS or PS2. The game world is doomed ;(.

Like i am so shocked that Dragon Quest 9 is a DS exclusive which just shows that Square don't know if PS3 will succeed. They didn't think of putting on Wii because of the controller and low spec hardware. They sure as hell will never put on 360 unless it sells in millions in japan. So they choose to put in on DS because its good platform for portable RPG and will have over 50million install base by the time it comes out.

hans030390:

Have you considered the fact that Mr. Newell might of been frustrated about whatever difficulties he might be encountering attempting to port HL2 over to PS3 for the Orange Edition release when he released those comments? Instead of interpreting his comments as hypocrisy due to Valve's work on the PS3 HL2, take it as a result of that work.

tuteja1986:

And what new "cool" games, are being developed for PS3? Are they great enough to make the PS3 stand out over X360, PC, or Wii? I think not.

Having grown up on the PC platform, I personally don't consider any PS game "serious" because it is only available on a proprietary system strictly regulated by one company: no mods, no scripts, no community developments to prolong game life. (The exception is of course the excellent Gran Tourismo series). Same with every console.

Thats what i am saying... Sony screwed up everything and now all the cool game developer are confused which platform to develop. If they develop on Wii they change the gameplay and make all the hard core fan happy. If they develop for DS then they change the game to suite portable console. if they develop for 360 then the game wouldn't sell well in Japan. So Sony screwed up everyone... Ahh !!

i don't hate Sony at all ... or MS .... or nvidia ... they are faceless and personalityless greedy corporations ... that's all

such "hate" is misplaced

but IF Sony goes under ... the PC just might get more "attention" as a gaming platform [again]

something *bad* happens ... something *good* may come of it

and didn't you *recommend* NWN2 as a *good game* to me after you finished it?😛
:frown:

😀

apoppin it was a good game but you didn't like it 🙁... thats all !! dream about mass effect. Its like Oblivion but the setting is under water city and its an FPS 🙂 .

I like how people will drop thousands of dollars on a PC JUST for gaming, yet $500-600 is "way too much."
You have to look at it this way. People have been paying thousands for PC. People would react the same if all of a sudden PC's instead of costing thousands, cost tens of thousands. And abrupt price rise from the $300 standard to $500-600 is way too much a rise for people to cope with.

I know we're talking the difference of hardcore gamers and consoler gamers, but still, I hear hardcore PC gamers saying the PS3 costs too much. Look at new video cards, upwards of $600. Do you think it really costs them $600 to make? Sony's losing at least $200 dollars on a console. If anything is "too expensive", it's the Wii. Those things cost less than $200 to make, yet they charge $250. I think the PS3 is priced very well, especially with the cell and blu-ray. If you don't want to pay extra for that, fine. DON'T BUY IT.
As I said before, people have been paying 500 to 600 dollars already for powerful videocards.

We are not looking at the value of the hardware vs how much we pay for it. We are looking at how much it costs to game in the next gen. A factor that even you must agree that PS3 is overpriced at. The 360 costs substantially less.

I don't hear the media complaining about the price of the 20gb HD for 360, or the wireless adapter. M$ charges $100 for each. Yeah, $100 for a wireless adapter or 20gb hard drive. If anything is a rip off, it's that. Not the PS3.
The media doesn't complain about the HD or the wireless adapter because they are accessories. Sure, I agree that they are freakin expensive, but when it comes to next gen gaming, people are going to be more price-conscious about the main console because it's a necessity. Accessories aren't.

As far as Gabe and others complaining about the PS3, they can just leave it alone and not mess with it. I'd rather take games from developers who work hard with the cell processor, realize its potential, and get the most they can out of it. It reminds me of the PS2. So many complained about developing for it, yet when you get the right team on it, they say "it's really not that bad" and they really create something amazing (GT4 on PS2 ran in 1080i).
It took them how many years and how many delays to get GT4 to run on 1080i. Exactly. The 360 can do just as good a job with their processor and it can probably be done in half the time.

Steam sucks. It never works properly.

the one thing you have to realize ... IF the PS3 does indeed suck and cannot be efficiently programmed it will fail

no amount of hype will keep it afloat ... especially at a premium price of $600

otoh, if they give good support to preferred devs and actually get a boatload of great games, it will probably be a success

i cannot predict it --either way

dialup simply MAGNIFIES Steam's faults 😛

Dude, give it a rest.

If you're on dial-up you view the world through poop-covered glasses.

Nobody here is having problems with steam but you.

i call BS on your statement

there are *many complaints* on these forums about Steam ... even in this thread 😛

. . . of course i also discount opinions of some who also think Microsoft is *perfect*

😀

Jeremy bitched that steam is a POS and so have you. Neither of you has actually mentioned what doesn't work right so as far as I can tell you're both talking out your asses with unsubstantiated gripes.

You seem to take a jab at me and Microsoft whenever you can. It's really not necessary and it gets pretty old. Why do you do this? Do I harass you or something?

I use steam, works exactly as I expect it to work, thumbs up for steam, the future of gaming distribution.

yes you DO harass me --and perhaps you do it unconsciously
[me giving you the benefit of the doubt since you mentioned it as though you *don't know*]

VIAN also said Steam sucks --within the last few posts ... THREE of us in ten posts
-- yet you single me out for *ridicule* as though i am a neanderthal because i have dialup 😛

the *issues* with Steam are *documented elsewhere* - i and many others posted our concerns here in SW
... if you like, after work , i can attempt to search them out for you

as far as MS goes ... i just disagree with your keeping hidden that you work for them ..
my PoV is different ... IF "i" worked for MS i would be PROUD to disclose my affiliation 😉

I frequently disclose that I work for MS. I don't try to hide it. It wasn't easy getting here and I'm quite proud of the accomplishment.

You just want some 'I WORK FOR MS' message in my sig and I'm not going to do it. It gives the impression that I'm here in some official capacity and I'm not. I'm "smilin" here and not, XXXXX@microsoft.com and I want to keep it that way.

Want to know why? Dicks like you 😛 (there...I harassed you) But seriously.. you know there are some really nasty anti-ms zealots and there aren't enough minutes in my life for me to deal with all of them so I don't.

As for steam sucks: ok, so lets just say everyone in the whole stinkin thread is saying it sucks. WHY? Other than the HL2 launch issues I haven't had any problems so I'm really ignorant of what the problem is.

What are the issues with steam?
I promise I won't ramble off into some great debate about it so no supporting links required. I just want to know what you're talking about.

ok, you 'get' what i mean about you and me ...

you also lump me in with the [nasty] anti-ms zealots. i am not. i feel the same way about MS the way you do about $ony. 😉
[they are both huge corporations that offer services many of us including me use ... i don't particularly "care" for Standard Oil but i buy their gas; or Cingular's cell service, for that matter]

if i worked for sony ... i might also take offense at what you say ... i particularly didn't like that you were participating in a *Vista thread* without disclosure - but as i said, it's *my* PoV.

and everything goes "both ways"

as to the *issues* with steam
[i picked on gabe 'cause his Engine is a 'target' and he is one to 'talk' about PS3 . . . anyway .....]

sigh ....

Steam is like dealing with a decent beta piece of SW ... sometimes it works .... other times it just refuses to work entirely and takes great effort and time-wasting to *workaround* .... it was far worse in the beginning and i had no issues recently with DM M&M [of couse, i got the manual patch ... NOT from Steam - which takes longer, anyway]

if you never had to do a steam *workaround* to get a game running, you cannot comprehend the *frustration* ... which is magnified by Dial-up.

if you like i can link to many discussions since HL2 was first released .... [search is broken, so it takes some work, too] ... but so far, three of us have expressed dissatisfaction with Steam in a very short period of time.

and if you like,
i will *offer* you a "truce"

I was bitching? Are you mentally retarded or something? Maybe I haven't posted anything later about why I don't like steam because I don't check back to threads as much as you do. You've obviously never played any valve games before steam when they were a lot better. Here are my reasons why I don't like steam.

Crashes so many times for me at least
They advertise way too much in the program
Theres always something that doesn't work (either friends, favourites, server history)
If you don't have internet you cant even play SP games
Valve charges money for mods that should be free (not a problem with the program tho)

I still use steam a lot,but its not my favorite progam.
