GA-X38T-DQ6 board and DDR2 memory?

All references that I see to the GA-X38T-DQ6 board refer to DDR3 memory. Will the board work with DDR2 memory as well? I realize the performance penalty, but I'd rather wait until the DDR3 memory product comes down in price.

Thanks- Bruce.

Gigabyte's GA-X38-DQ6 is identical to the GA-X38T-DQ6 and it does support DDR2 (only). With current RAM prices you can go for a set of fast DDR2 mems running @1066 or higher. The performance difference is not that bad, especially if you take into consideration the horrible latencies of DDR3 mems. There is a good thread here in the forums about the GA-X38-DQ6 where you can get more info on it. The thread?s originator has a nice setup with 4x2GB sticks for a total of 8GBs running @1000!

Thanks for the replies, and reference to the GA-X38T-DQ6 info.

I like the GB X38/38T as they support the 45nm CPU's for future upgrades (I have a Q6600 at the moment). I primarily run Flight Sim X which is largely CPU-bound, hence my interest in these boards. How much of a performance limiter would DDR2 be on what we know about the 45nm CPU's?

Also- are DDR2 and DDR3 always mutually exclusive on other X38 boards?

Thanks- Bruce.
