GA-X38-DQ6 will not boot with USB device connected

I've just built a new machine (specs below), and it seems to be working just fine except for one little problem: the machine will not boot if any USB device is attached to it. It will hang at the motherboard splash screen and just sit there.

I've looked around in the BIOS but haven't been able to find any sort of "boot from USB" function, and I have verified that my system HD is set to be first to boot.

Anyone have any ideas?

Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 ram (4 x 1GB)
EVGA 640-P2-N827-AR 8800GTS video card

Thanks!

just great! Just after I buy the same mobo and CPU I see this! ;) I've heard of one report of issues with 4 sticks of memory. Perhaps downclocking them would resolve it? I hope...for your sake and mine...

the only other thing I can put out there is that USB is a great way to fry a mobo - as I have found several times. Buy a usb hub and never plugin directly. I've seen similar results using portable mp3 players. A little static noise and the next reboot never works.

good luck...and welcome to the forums...they are a great resource for troubleshooting and getting reviews before you buy something.

lol. I have a problem with my 680i... it seems to think that my iPod is a CD-ROM and since CD's are the first in the boot order, it hangs cuz my iPod ain't a CD-ROM.

I Have the same MB, CPU, and 4 sticks of the same RAM. Runs like a champ! Under Advanced BIOS Features, try setting the 2nd and 3rd boot devices to disabled, with the 1st device set to hard disk. That would tell you if the listed device settings are causing it.

BTW selecting USB-HDD is how you would select to boot from a USB hard drive.

Following up, I figured it out. Disabling USB Legacy support in the BIOS has cleared the problem up.
