yep....polls opened at 7am. Stopped at my Shell station to throw some gas in my truck and had forgotten they opened at 7am. The taped off beer/wine coolers in the place reminded me. Can't sell liquor when the polls open. Heaven forbid!!! 😉

There's other states that do that too? It was one thing in Kentucky for all schools to shut down on election day. It was another to find out the first month I moved there (May '14 primaries) that you couldn't buy alcohol on election day too.

What the hell?

I believe it's because it used to be common to get people drunk and have them all go out and vote for a preferred candidate.

So who is to blame if Perdue and Loeffler lose the election today? You could blame Trump, or maybe the nutjobs suggesting that Republican voters boycott the election, but my vote goes to Mitch McConnell. Ossoff and Warnock have made it clear that they will vote for additional stimulus checks for Georgians and Americans. McConnell shot down giving anyone any additional stimulus. Voters aren't all stupid, and they not only like getting free money from the government, many of them need it right now because of economic hardships due to the pandemic. I do sincerely hope that he cost himself the majority leaders job.

Truly dedicated GOP voters will be concerned about the debt and against any additional stimulus since it will got to the minorities who don't work. (While living in the run down shack and unable to keep the lights on, hoping they can pick up an extra shift at the Dollar General).

Not sure there'd be anyone to blame. Maybe for once Democrats got motivated to vote (particularly younger people, who typically do not.) By Demographics you'd think Georgia would always be in play. If there's one thing to count on in life, along with death and taxes: old white people vote more than anyone else. And their horses win elections.

that is so...American. lol.

You said it, boyo.

My state, NC, finally found their way out of the dark ages and stopped such stupidity. Of course the goes back to the churches and blue laws. Blue laws here used to be laughable, but slowly they have been eliminated one by one.

And if you needed to do some serious drinking on election day, the last couple of elections definitely fit the bill.

Think you will find it is more common in states with blue laws.

Besides if you want to ply me with alcohol to get me to vote for you, you better break out the top shelf stuff.

If the repubs win both seats then Trump will say... SEE, I HAD TO HAVE WON THE STATE. TWO REPUBLICANS JUST WON BUT I LOST? FRAUD! FRAUD!

I think that Loeffler might lose. She's just a terrible candidate from what I've seen. I don't see Perdue losing, though.

Believe it or not, I STILL live in a dry county. ballot measure to sell alcohol has failed TWICE!!

Pretty much all media coverage rules out a split decision. It's just hard to figure out how many voters could cast a Perdue vote and not one for Loeffler on the same ballot. Put another way, what kind of voter picks one semi-polished turd but not another from the same latrine?

Normally I would 100% agree, and I would actually bet on a R win. However, I expect it to be close enough with Loeffler ending up 1%-2% lower than Purdue and just enough for Warnock to edge her out.

This is obviously just a feeling, without any real basis. Especially as we have so little information regarding election day voting.

Um. A lot of the rural counties are reporting 99% and the margins and turnout dont seem to be enough there, with both ossoff and Warnock up by like 10.

Nate silver says not to read too much into since total size of election day vote and total turnout in general are up in the air but damn. This is not where I was expecting to be at this point. We'll see if it holds.

STOP THE COUNT!

Not very surprising, I assume that the first votes that were counted were early/absentee votes.

Looks like it. So the question is; does the early voting match or beat the 2020 results? I’ll be looking to see if republicans pick their numbers with regards to same day voting, were they able to get out the vote and did they get more people to come out?
