I built a rig with a GA-P35-DS3L, E6750, 2Mb Ram, 7800GTX, Antec TruPower TP2-550EPS12V
worked fine for a week or two

but now every time I power the system after it has been off for a while (like overnight), it doesn't power up all the way. sometime it reboots during the POST, sometimes it goes as far as windows loading, but it rebotts multiple times before finally getting all the way.
I loaded the "failsafe" defaults and it still has the problem, so I doubt it is the BIOS settings

once the system s up and running it is rock solid, but I have a hell of a time getting it there.

Is it the the mobo, the power supply, something else?

Reset BIOS. Load Optimized Default. If problem persists, then manually set RAM voltage and timing to specs. Run Memtest86 to test RAMs. Problem could also be PSU.

I too just bought and put together a new rig. GA-P35-DS3L, E6550, 2x1GB OCZ Plat. memory, 8400GS, Cooler Master eXtreme 650W.

Two main problems:
1) It boots to post, then windows loading and crashes at the same point everytime.
2) When i try to go into setup to mess with BIOS, my keyboard (usb powered) doesnt do a damn thing sooo basically im helpless

Im thinking maybe i could use a PS2 keyboard and see if i can try to reset bios with that.. hopefully. Also, Im thinking it might be the ram. I know the OCZ platinum needs 2.1 v to run properly, but once again i cant get in to do anything. Any advice or suggestions would be very helpful.

This problem was attributed to the BIOS CPU Smart FAN Control setting found in the PC Health Status Screen. It is ENABLED by default, and allows the CPU fan to run at different speeds according to the CPU temperature. On my system, when booting a "cold" system, the fan would kick over, stop; kick over, stop; etc. I set this BIOS feature to DISABLED so the fan runs at fullspeed all of the time, and the problem went away.

That's why it's best to avoid OCZ RAMs. Quality JEDEC 1.8V DDR2 800 RAMs should run well at 400MHz/4-4-4-12-2T. You can also overclock these modules to at least 450MHz/5-5-5-15-2T with 2.0 to 2.1Vdimm.

Change Vdimm to 2.1V and manually set timing to 5-5-5-15-2T. Run Memtest86, test#5 for 50 loops to check RAMs.

Im hoping it's just the RAM. I have 2x1 Patriot extreme and 2x1 Crucial ballistix on the way.
SO... this does seem like a memory issue?
and how can i run memtest86 off a USB? Ive tried loading the ISO images onto it and then selecting my 1st boot as USB-CDROM and that hasnt worked. My other USB options are USB-FDD and USB-HDD

I didnt run the memtest yet, but i got a 2x1gb patriot extreme, and they had the exact same problem... im banking on the fact that i didnt get two dead kits from two separate companies.

I managed to videotape my BSOD and finally read what is says (it flashes for about half a second). Here is the message:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives
or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure that it is
properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive
corruption, and then restart your computer.

it then says "technical information ***STOP: "and then some numbers but its really hard to make out exactly what it says.

Again, run memtest to check RAMs. Update BIOS and reset CMOS. Also make sure that you've zero filled the HDD and clean installed windows when working with a used HDD.

i'm having a similar issue with my ds3l r2.0

i have 4 sticks of 1gb crucial ballistix ddr2 pc6400 800mhz

e6750, 8800gts, 700w coolermaster, stock HS and fan

when trying to do initial boot with all 4 sticks, no post, then i tried booting with 2 sticks in dual channel config, no post, i can only get it to post with either 1 stick or with 2 sticks in single channel config

I ALSO have been having the problem mentioned above, where the cpu fan continually kicks over and stops, kicks over and stops, and i have had issues where it will not really boot at all and just turn off, or boot to windows then crash to the POST screen and just sit there

my next course of action is to try to update the bios, i've tried all sorts of tweaks like changing the timings (already relaxed at 5-5-5-18) and upping the voltage to 2.2 and 2.1

Nothing seems to be working but i haven't had a chance to really get in depth yet, completely new build btw

I just got a ds3l from newegg to replace my ASUS P5K because I was having severe boot problems with it similar to yours. I tried different power supplies, different memory, different cpu heatsinks, different bios settings, the works, and it still would not boot the first time after I turned on the power to it from my power center (so the power to the pc was completely off), or even if I shut it down and left the power on to the pc in the power center (so that the pc alway had power connected to it.) It would always boot the second try a minute later, but would not remember my overclocks most times and would randomly be reset to different cpu speeds even if not overclocked. (BTW, I was very systematic about all this over a couple months).

So I pulled the P5K and substituted the ds3l last night, replacing the memory and cpu heatsink with new stuff and this morning the ds3l did the same dual boot trick where the pc came on, lights and fans on, and then it shut down and quickly restarted and all was well. This was the way the P5K behaved at first. Not a good omen unless all P35 boards have this trick and only some of them get worse....

As V.larry says. This topic has been beaten to death
While memory could be party attributable (setting overly aggressive timings) I highly doubt it is memory - I have OCZ XTC rev B. Crucial ballistix, and HP Mushkin in 3 different P35 boards and all does the doube boot (on a cold boot up) DS3L, IP35-E and P5K-E
Tried the crucial in an AMD AM2 board with much more aggressive timings and no double boot. Some of the things board manufacturers should do as DFI did is set a start up vid higher than what is set in the OC to help the boot up.

I think also there is conflict over what people mean by "double post". The true double post is a "feature" of the P35 chipset. Sometimes the mobo will try to post, then try again with different settings and be successful. Then there are times when it will reset once more again, but this time it resets the overclock. I think this should really be termed something like TBOD or "Triple Boot of Death".

Gigabyte are now asking me for more information about this so they can try and replicate it in the lab. However since my board has been working fine for almost 2 weeks and I cannot get it to reproduce the problem, I'm not sure I can help. I think there are too many variables in this and memory settings are one of them. Whether there is a fault in the bios or in the board components, or it's simply a compatibility issue, is a question I'm not able to answer.

Regalk, is that true what you said about DFI's fix? It doesn't make sense in my case since when I started getting problems, I had a fairly high vcore. I actually thought that's what caused the issue at first.

Anyway, this still doesn't make sense to me how for some people (including me) the problem can occur after the system had been stable for days/weeks, and then all of a sudden it disappears and the system becomes stable again. And that's without even touching the bios. Freaky stuff.

i am glad my board does not do this. i have my board overclocked to 2.88GHZ via 320 FSB and 9 multiplier and memory multiplier of 2.5. i left all the voltages at default and did not touch the memory timings
