well its an 0951 week, and I am using win XP 32 bit.

Don't know about the C2. Where would I find that ? cpuz ? (not as good with AMD cpus these days)

Oh 32bit, that's kinda low for 32bit. :( Can you get 3.7? There are a lot of 3.7s and you shouldn't feel left out if you can get 3.7. I recall seeing a lot of 3.725's etc.
If you can't go higher than 3.6 then that is indeed sad.

CPU-z, look at revision.

I think it's simply a dud (overclocking-wise). CPU-Z will say whether it's C2 or C3 (look "Revision" tab), but a lot of C2's can do 3.8 GHz without adding voltages. (Mine does) And remember that Mark's CPU only has two cores. My 955 BE can even do 4.0 GHz fine with stock vCore under 64-bit environment - one core at a time, that is. :D

Considering the hard frequency ceiling Deneb tends to hit, it is not unimaginable that some hit that ceiling earlier than others. It's just a (bad) luck.

If you bought it expecting a guaranteed unlock, bad call. Its only some that unlock. I was just unlucky it seems, but I was prepared (although unhappy) for the results.

No no, I know it's not a guarantee.

A friend of mine bought the same set and his was successfully unlocked. He gave it an hour with Prime95 which resulted in no errors.

I certainly hope I get the same results though. Otherwise, I suppose I could be happy (somewhat) with a faster dual core.

Update: It won't do 3.8 even at 1.4 vcore, plus other voltages, but it will do 3.6 on stock vcore (1.3) Very odd. That all I am getting out of this POS.

Try 1.475-1.48, that's what it takes for my unlocked 550 to do 3.8 stable. You might have to bump up some other voltages by 1 notch.

1.4v is more than plenty to see if it can boot with the cores unlocked. Having an extra 0.8v wouldn't magically make his 3rd and 4th core unlock at stock speeds.

Well, I got my PhII X2 550 on Monday and got everything set up that night, but didn't actually get around to playing with it until today. So I managed to unlock both cores and ran Orthos for about 20 minutes without any issues. Huzzah! Now, time to OC!

my B50 needed 1.488 vcore for stability on a GA-MA785GM-US2H.
what vcore was required to unlock it ? I have not gone higher than 1.4, I was told if it won't unlock at that (stock speed) it won't unlock.

I'm using the exact same mobo as well. I'm able to have my B50 run on stock voltage and stock clock frequencies, 1.35V and 3.1GHz, along with CnQ enabled. So far, I haven't encountered any instability.

@mark
Have you tried disabling CnQ?

I've heard from someone at slickdeals.net saying you can't get the cores unlocked and POST if CnQ is enabled. That didn't seem to have an effect in my case, but still worth a shot.
