Hey you all. I got a question for someone. I just recently bought me a new athlon 64 board. I bought the Gigabyte GA-K8NS Ultra-939 motherboard and I was trying to find out if it supports the new winchester core chips. I would hate to buy a winchester chip and then it not work. Can someone please help me.

Yes, it should. Winchesters are just S939 chips scaled down to 90nm, with a few minor improvements. I have heard nasty things about Gigabyte, though-you might want to look into an Asus or Abit board, instead, and wait for the Nforce4 or ATI Xpress boards so you can use the midrange PCIe graphics cards.

I would love to do that but I do not like pci-e. I have an overclocked level 2 9800 pro. I am just looking for a good chip for my board. And I wanted a board that uses nforce 3.

All the socket 939 nForce3 have their share of problems, but if you really want to go with it I'd recommend the EPoX or MSI boards.

See I actually thought about getting the via chipset but to be honest. I have never liked via. I have some friends that have had great luck out of the gigabyte 754 boards.

Unfortunately the Gigabyte nF3-939 boards are a completely different story. :(

If you really want nForce you could start thinking of selling that video card for a 6600GT PCI-E. The Gigabyte is $184 on newegg.

PCI-E just seems a little too new for me. I want to wait untill they have the bugs out of them because I know they are there. Is there that much of a performance increase over AGP.

There is a 0% difference between AGP and their PCIe bretheren (when clocked the same). Nforce4 is just more "future proof".

Why is this board GA-K8NSNXP-939 almost $90 more than the K8NS?

I'm thinking these might be good for audio use since the audio vendors recommend T.I. lan.

What do you guys/glas think about the K8NS? Or A8V, or MSI Neo Plat (here it's hit or miss with this board and places like new egg won't even let you return it except for the same item.

Please advise.

The only difference between the Ultra and the K8NSNXP-939 is the dual power system. I'd guess excluding that on the later model drove down the cost a bit, (not sure how it could be by that much though). Dude, let me tell you from experience of my own and many others, don't buy any of the nforce3 Gigabyte boards. There are a ridiculous amount of issues with them.
