I'm planning to buya new Athlon-based motherboard and the question is
which of these two is better.

The planned system components are as following:
1. CPU - Athlon XP 2500+ Barton
2. RAM - 256MB 333MHz, 256MB 400MHz

1. GA-7N400-L1 supports 4 dimms (dual channel).
2. GA-7VT600-L supports thermal shutdown feature.

What is your opinion regarding both motherboards, considering that their prices are pretty same.

get the Nforce2

nForce2. But you could answer your own question by browsing other forums/boards like this and see what other enthusiests are using You're going to see a loooooooot of nForce2, and for good reason. Ultimately though, since it seems doubtful that you'll overclock, just pick whatever board has the features you want/need.
