^ Um, it hasn't even been out a year. Though I do agree that the 8800GTS 320MB owners really got the most for their money when you look at how little the value of them has dropped since release.

Things get more and more messy. This link says the new 8800GTS will also be based on G92, which means all the current 8800GTS will be phased out. Make sense though.

G92 will be sold as 3 SKUs
8800GS, 8800GT and (new) 8800GTS
8800GS: 6TPC(96SP),~$150, 256MB/256bit
8800GT:7TPC(112SP), ~$200-250, geared at replacing 8800GTS 320MB. There can be two versions of 256MB and 512MB. Many OC versions may be available.
G92 fully flegded version. new 8800GTS(comes later): 8TPC, 128SP, to replace 8800GTS/640MB. Comes with 512MB; If OC'ed, it should be close to GTX/Ultra in 3DMark??Of course under 1920*1200 4XAA, it will still be slower than 768MB/384Bit GTX/Ultra.
What part exactly doesn't make any sense?Originally posted by: munky

That doen't make any sense, if the new gts has 512mb of mem, then it means it has a 256-bit bus, as opposed to a 320-bit bus on the current 640mb model.

There's always the thing that 8600 GT/GTS has only 32 SP, 16 TMU and 8 ROP unit against 96 SP, 24 TMU and 20 ROP (8600 GT/GTS cards have bigger frequences, but still G84 GPU doesn't come close to 88GTS..)Originally posted by: SniperDaws
and do you think this will make a diffrence ? ive always thought that the real reason the 8600GT/GTS were 128bit was because if they were 256bit they would of been just as fast as the 8800GTS, i might be wrong.

The downside is not everyone can afford the price. Hopefully ATI can release something spectacular soon to help force nVidia's prices down. I dont see anything on the horizon though unfortunately. :frown:

If new 8800 GTS's memory frequency is over 2000MHz it will have bigger memory bandwith than old version. If 8800 GT has 1800MHz for memory..I would be suprised if new GTS would have smaller bandwith. It will have smaller amount of memory compared to 8800 GTS 640MB, but this should be small issue. Well some manufacturer can bring 1024MB version if that's needed.

..well these specs are just speculation. Some time ago this one guy insisted that G92=8700 GTS and is totally just G84 replacement..and people did think that it was foolish to think that G92 would replace G80 (atleast partially)..which is the case according these rumours.

Rumours change by the day.
This suggest that G92 is fully capable high end chip; G80 done in 65nm + PCI-E2. Since that die shrink and that GT and GTS have both 112SP I'd believe they'll increase clock frequencies on GTS, GTX and Ultra.

If it were "PCI-E2 motherboards"-only it would hurt sales too much.. because there aren't that many people who have PCI-E2 motherboard.
