G80 series or price reduced 7950GTX's..

Consider previous price drops with nvidia v/c's...

The difference from what we know of the 8800GTS and the current 7950GTX.. will the better bargain be with the 7950? Or do the spec's between the two resemble eachother in some way?

I'd research myself, but have no idea (in lamens terms) what each component of the v/c's play in their roll.. I'd like to, but haven't found any websites worth reading 2 minutes of b/c they expect you to know 1/2 the stuff they are talkin about

if i were you, i would first take into account my current system and whether or not i need/want to upgrade it for the 8800 or whatever floats your boat. Remember, these cards suck power. that's just my thought.

also, if you're not gonna buy vista, then theres no point in dx10.

7950GX2's are coming way down in price, to around $530CDN here (XFX Xtreme edition too, the OC'd one) which is the same price as a 1950XTX. I'll be curious to see how much better the 8800GTS is. Of course with 8800GTS you get 640meg memory (versus 512 effective) and no fiddling with SLI.

Well - My rig is really starting to tick me off.. All of my settings in games, even older one's, exhibit lag.

Operation Flashpoint: Average FPS: 10-30
Company of Heroes: Avg FPS: 10-15 (In action scenes)
Half Life 2: 40

Settings on all of these hover at the medium level.. and my specs:

CPU: X2 4200
VC: 6800GT
RAM: 2GB
(Newly formatted)

I just dont understand and I hope that this VC upgrade will "OMG!!1!!" fix everything..

I am planning on getting Vista and so.. DX10 is down my ally.. does this say I should rightfully get the 8800GTO? Opposed to a 7950GTX?

I don't have a dual-core cpu, but there have been reports in the past about dual-core chips causing lags in certain games. There are some update fixes out there though. And setting the app to only use 1 core often fixes it as well. Try that first.

Also, what resolution are you playing at? The GT is getting a little old, but should be able to play those fine at mid-range resolutions.

sounds like a driver issue, I can run HL2 at 1280x1024 with everything turned up on this 3200, x800xt and 1gb ram rig. Not sure what the frame rate is but it's certainly very smooth. That's a point, what res are you running this stuff at?

1024x768.

My flashpoint pref's are all on LOW. Yet get 10fps in action sequences or playing online and shooting the ground from an aircraft.. i get 1fps then.. no matter how good the server is.

Do you have shadows on? Even on low quality they kill my 6800GT. I usually get a good boost by turning them off.
