G80 ordering thread

Curious who's planning to buy one and which? Or are you waiting for the mid range variants or r600?

As much as I'd like to I don't think my patience will hold out for r600 and I plan to order a 8800gtx today, certain games just dip too low on the min frames at the resolution/settings I prefer. =(

But for a very very nice price.

In the UK, right?

Yes indeedy.

I kind of want to buy a 8800 GTX.
But can't justify the extra £100 🙁

£100 is 2 360 games or over a weeks worth of food shopping, or a whole weeks worth of rent. Yes my rent is pretty high, I live in canary Wharf, London.

I would like to pick a GTX, but they are not available (yet) in Germany. Just the GTS's are around.

Interesting enough, a search engine was showing both cards this morning listed on a couple of online stores, with a 100 euros price difference between the cheapest and the most expensive, for both the GTS and the GTX. Now, early in the night, the cheaper listings just disappeared.

I guess the vendors realized they can cash a lot in the beginning and will relist later at a much higher price.

If that's the case, I will just wait. I can live until February with the GTO.

The 7900GTO just teached me to wait some months. 50% price cut is quite a good deal for a 6 month wait.

I'll most likely pass them up, as there isn't much in the way of new games to justify their purchase right now. I might get the refresh or R600 instead.

Guess I havent looked, are they for sale now? I know EVGA doesnt have them up, neither does Newegg.
But yes, planning on getting one very soon.

I'm going to try to get a GTX today as long as there's enough supply and the gouging isn't huge. I set aside enough to buy the video card and a bit extra in case of mark-up, but you never know how the dollar signs in the eyes of men in suits will change things :x.

EDIT: Specified which one.

eVGA 8800GTX for $650 - probably $50 too high, but if there are any issues it's a local return/swap (in the event that there are any resistor issues) ... It's waiting for me at MicroCenter... Just printed out my confirmation "your order is ready" email 🙂

Whatever card ends up being the best thi spring after (hopefully) R600 & the refresh model 8800 are released.

Look at Firingsquad's review - an 8800GTS overclocked to 620/900 is right up there or faster than an 8800GTX at stock. Absolutely massive gains like 50fps to 75fps.

goddamn no willpower.

evga 8800gtx ordered from zipzoomfly $651.99 with 2 day shipping.

now to the FS/FT forum to sell my X1900XT.

I hope they come out with a 7900GS equivalent G80. It would be nice to have all the new features with reduced power and heat, even if it isnt the fastest thing out there.
