We have got to know the specs for the upcoming 90nm G71 series already. There will be two models as we have revealed before; the GeForce 7900 GTX and GeForce 7900 GT. However, the performance differences between the two models seem to be pretty huge and we can expect quite a huge price difference too. We have yet to confirm on the number of pipelines on the 7900 GTX and GT but current sources point towards 32 and 24 pipelines respectively.

GeForce 7900 GTX will be clocked at 650MHz core / 1.6GHz memory and has 512MB GDDR3 1.1ns memories onboard while GeForce 7900 GT will be clocked at 450MHz core / 1.32GHz memory with 256MB GDDR3 1.4ns memories. We have also heard that GeForce 7900 GTX will win Radeon X1900 XTX in most benchmarks so we shall eagerly wait for the launch on March 9th at CeBIT.

So, it stands as

7900GTX
650mhz core clock
1600mhz Memory clock
256bit GDDR3
512mb

32pipelines
10VS (Assuming the architecture has 8 quads)
24?ROps

MSRP of $699?

7900GT
450mhz core clock
1320mhz memory clock
256bit GDDR3
256/512 mb variants

24 pipelines
8VS
16ROPs

MSRP of 499? This card might replace both the 7800GTX and GT. Since its 90nm, it looks like it will be OCable up to 500~ or more. The Gap seems to be huge though.

Who told them it will win in most benches ? Nvidia ? If true tho, may have to get the 7900 GT SLI

Why? Just so you could have the fastest setup for the 3-5 months before G80/R600 come out with unified architecture, HDR+AA for G80, and DX10 support?

i think it'll be around 600 for gtx since they have to lower it to around that price in order for them to compete with ati

nvidia doesn't wanna lose another battle do they?

Your quote says 450MHz not 430MHz, just FYI.

Also, what are the current GT and GTX clocked and piped at, for quick reference? Thanks.

STEP....UP....RUNNING....OUT....MUST....HAVE....G....71....

Seriously though, I really wish this damn thing would just come out.

I swear to God, if Nvidia paper launches the 7900GTX and I miss my step-up window, I will buy a 1900XTX and never look back.

So how many months until G80/R600?

I hope I can hold out for them until they come out. I have an AGP X800Pro right now. I'm holding out with AGP for as long as I have. Long live the Athlon XP Mobile! :)

7900 GTX = 32*650 = 20800
7900 GT = 24*450 = 10800

That is double the performance (fillrate) between the GTX and GT. Just doesnt add up ...

7800GTX 256mb / 7900GTX:

110nm / 90nm lowk
430mhz core clock / 650mhz core clock
1200mhz memory clock / 1600mhz memory clock
256bit GDDR3 same
256mb / 512mb
24 pipelines / ? pipelines
8VS / ? VS
16 ROPs / ? ROPs

7800GT / 7900GT:
110nm / 90nm lowk
400mhz core clock / 450mhz core clock
1000mhz memory clock / 1320mhz memory clock
256bit GDDR3 same
256mb same
20 pipelines / 24 pipelines
7VS / 8VS
16ROPs same

Not sure about features. Rumours has it that there will be some new features that will make it stay competitive to the X1900. Im thinking more of improved AF, or something along the lines of improving IQ. No HDR plus AA but is comfirmed on the G80.

Hmmm... If true, that GT isn't very impressive IMO, unless they OC like mad. Sounds pretty much like a die shrunk 7800GTX. We'll have to see.

I know the MSRP's listed above are totally speculation on the OP's part, but I would imagine that if the GT is $499 people will be opting for the X1900XT over that card.

Use your head... The current GTX 512 already is pretty close to he X1900XTX... I don't even think it's a question of the performance. Price/availability may be another story though.

There have been reports that the 7900 cards will have the 5800U's AF, which was apparently very good. They say that when you're deaf the graphics look better. :Q

The 7900GT does sound a bit low on the Core side at least. With the die shrink i'd expect 500 MHz on that core.

the 512 gtx was announced as limited quantity
and nvidia just wanted the performance crown by that time

however, this time, it's a refresh product that nvidia had time on since last summer

I'm guessing the thing will edge out the X1900XTX seeing as the 512mb GTX is pretty close right now anyways. Nvidia wouldn't re-engineer a new core just to lose again to ATI. They will win. By how much is the question at this point, along with cost.

Features are a pretty moot point right now IMO. DirectX9 cards won't get much better in terms of features unless Microsoft releases a new DX patch of some sort (highly unlikely).

It's going to be interesting though. I'm very interested in seeing FEAR benchmarks seeing as that's where ATI seems to shine as of late.

Thanks cookie! Very helpful post.

Only thing a bit disappointing there is the GT only 256MB when it seems that it will be priced at $500 which is where the friggin' X1900XT is right now which is 512MB and way more pipelines. =

If 7900GT with those stats was $399 to start it might sell (especially in a month or two when it dropped to $375ish). For $499 it would need 512MB and a bit more clockspeed on the core.

There will likely be 512MB Variants of the 7900GT and OC parts probably nearing 500MHz Core off the shelf.

It was meant to beat the X1800XT, which it does...
