G70 pricing!

Considering that the $900 is $900AU (which equals about $700US) and in the U.S. we don't pay VAT, I think your over reacting. Besides, as far as I've seen most tech stuff is slightly more expensive in the UK. But going by those numbers, I'd guess the G70 should cost $550-$600 US. Then again, what do I know?

1500 US dollars? No way. Even in small quantities (and from what I have seen that isn't an issue like last fall's releases) there is no way they will charge 1500 US dollars. I bet 600 dollars will be the higher end but even though I am omnipotent in my forcasts I have been known to be wrong once in a while. 😉

Edit: Since I am omnipotent, the word is really omniscient. 😉 😉

I'd be very surprised, at $1500US, even if some e-tailers price gouge a little. It's not too easy to do that when supposedly all these major e-tailers will have 'em on Wed.

yeah itll be £600 odd here too i bet, and the good old currency rate at the minute is

1 GBP = 1.82534 USD

so £600 = $1,095.20 USD

I hate to burst your bubble, but you British almost always pay more for EVERYTHING than people here in America, even when you take the currency rate out of the equation.

i.e. most places that sell R2 DVDs usually have 'em listed at about £15-£20 (from what I've seen) including the VAT. We pay $15-20 here. You see what I'm saying? That's why I think if the G70 is £600 in the UK, it'll be about $600 here.

In the end, all we can really do is wait until Wednesday. It's only two more days, or even less if you plan to check the prices and everything right when you wake up in the morning on Wednesday. 😉

X800XL is £180 vs $250.
It'll probably be $700 or so in the US for the 7800.

Have to love not paying VAT here. 🙂

Mwave supposedly had theirs for $650, and that was considered gouging. I'm still going to guess the non-gouged price will be $400 for the GT, 500 for the GTX, and 600 for the ultra whenever it gets released.

Then again we'll know wednesday so no point in guessing.

I have a funny feeling that it doesn't matter if the MSRP is $2 or $2000, the retailers will overcharge and intentionally keep the availibility limited to 1 or 2 cards in stock just like they did with the 6800 series. I guess I have become a cynic in my old age.

I really wish ATi would try to rain on nVidia's parade tomorrow by announcing full specs of R520 or leaking info and a launch date or something. Not that I really care for one company over the other, but I'm at what I consider critical mass as far as an upgrade is concerned, and I'd like to see both sides before deciding. But with ATI not even announcing until 'possibly sometime July' it's making it difficult to wait.

But if e-tailers try to price gouge the GTX cards, I'll just wait out of spite.

Meanwhile.

The 6800GT AGP's are falling in price as well as the Dual DVI PCI Express models. AGP s falling in price as everybody transistions to PCI-Express. The demand for AGP cards are becoming smaller therefore the prices are dropping faster.

250-300 for a 6800GT
325-350 for a 6800GT PCI-E

This stands to reason. The 6800 series is a native AGP card. The opposite is true for the X800XL. which is native PCI-E.
newegg prices:
$313 X800XL AGP
$279 X800XL PCI-E

If the 7800GTX's are too expensive when they are first available. I think I might get an X800XL as a "placeholder" card in my forthcoming PCI-E rig. I would imagine that an X800XL would still fetch a fair amount on ebay 6 months from now, and with the release of the 7800GTX, they might even get close to $225.

But I think of how well the X800XL would compete against a 6800GTAGP at the same price or with it's late arrival when the newer generation is around the corner.

Did you already sell your 6800 card like I did? Hehe.
