G520 v G520P

I asked this awhile back and the consensus seems to be that the case is the only difference. The P model has a snazzier looking silver case.

i would agree but i originally thought the "p" version was the "professional" version

Yeah, I thought it would be something like that too at first. But as far as I and others I asked can tell its basically only the case thats different. It doesnt help that Sony doesnt list all the same spec catagories for both of them, gah. But after looking into this awhile back if there is a difference other then the case I have no idea what it is.

I'm looking at a G-520P right now. The case has a silver bezel. Darker grey cabinet.
Just got it today. Looks pretty cool to me.

The G 520 has a light Dove grey cabinet.

Other than that I dunno either.

They are the same, other than the enclosure. I believe the G520P is the only version sold in most markets. Here in the US, we get 2 versions for some reason.

so i just got the G520....

I went to the store expecting to get the G520p but when i got there the guy says.... "I've got some bad news." So he explains that the G520p is not in stock and offers the 'non-p' instead...

Then, just as I'm about to open my big mouth... he says, "The only difference is that at max res, the 'p' runs at 85 and the 'non-p' at 80..."

Anyone feel like commenting on that? hehe...

Either I'm crazy, or the specs of the 520P were just upgraded in the past 2 or 3 days.

After researching more closely and listening to advice in a couple different forums, I had changed my mind about the 520P and decided to get the NEC/Mitsu 2141SB. The main reason I used to convince myself was that I'd be able to run at 85Hz if I decided to run that insane resolution(2048x1536). When I looked, the 520 and 520P pages both said 80Hz at that resolution....I swear that was within the past 3 days!

There was that article about Sony stopping production of smaller CRTs. Maybe the 520 will be part of that and the 520P is already starting to use some different parts...

#1 Your a moron for trying to run at max res. The monitor isn't big enough to display everything correctly so IT WILL be fuzzy. If you need that much, buy two monitors.

#2 Sony's resfresh rates are the highest I've ever seen. I run my 520P at 1280*960 @ 120Hz. It can easily run @ 140Hz, but not very many games support this high of a refresh rate.

#3 Not all refresh rates are listed by Sony. When you get the monitor and click on list all modes in the advanced tab. You will have hundreds of options.

Should I be offended if someone who doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're" calls me a moron?

Not trying to offend, just giving some facts about running at a high resolution.
