G4 or XBOX?

I wondering if I should plunk down $300 for a G4 4400 or a XBOX?

I've currently got a AthlonXP 1400 @1800 w/ Radeon 8500 setup on my computer so I'm not sure what I'd gain by getting a G4 4400. On the other hand I've never been a huge fan of consoles and recently sold my PS2...but something in the back of my head keeps telling me to buy the XBOX.

Considering that the XBOX uses a GF3 card, getting a GF4 would be better for you if you play a lot of games on your computer. On the other hand, if you're a fan of game consoles, then XBOX is the way to go. The graphics are really nice, and you don't have to use a keyboard/mouse to play your games. It really depends on your preferences. Hope this helps. 🙂

Considering your current setup, I'd either get the XBOX or wait another generation to get an NV30 / R300 based card. Depends on what kinds of games you like.

since you don't play console games don't bother with an xbox until you see a game you must have, or theres a couple really compelling games on the market.

since you have a radeon 8500 i've got to wonder what games you feel you're lacking performance in.

and the xbox graphics chip is closer to gf4 than gf3, due to the dual t&l pipes.

well, if you like PS2, then get the xbox since most of the games are re-done PS2 games....it sucks though because the xbox has been a disappointment to most who own it, i would get the g4, but thats just my opinion

hmm... i would go G4.. that will last you a pretty long time, think Wolfenstein is already at the XBOX level, and that 4 can handle more than that... plus you have that nice XP.. 😛

the XBOX is not a disappointment to those who own it AFAIK. Well, it isn't to me anyways... The games I'm having most fun with are xbox excluclusive titles (I own them) Halo, NFL Fever, and Rallisport Challenge. I don't care what anyone says 8+ player system-link Halo is the most fun of any console or PC game to date.

But so was the PS2, up until last november. The games were laughable until that point, then they dropped the big games. Give the xbox some time.

I'd have stuck with the ps2 personally, but since you sold it, I'd probably go Xbox.

Man I came in here thinking you were talking about a G4 .. like, macintosh kind.
You should just send all that extra money to me, I accept paypal 🙂

the xbox has crappy controllers and crappy games. get a gamecube or a ps2. i dont think you'd get much out of upgrading your vid card its just not much of a boost.

I vote for Xbox. Any complaints about aesthetics or controller size are purely subjection and should be taken as such. I simply believe the Xbox controller is the best feeling controller I've ever used. But again, my opinion like everyone else's here should be taken as just another opinion... not yours.

The Xbox has a lot of really fun games out right now, including Halo, Rallisport Challenge, Dead or Alive III, Project Gotham Racing, NBA Inside Drive (and NBA 2k2), Madden (and Fever), Oddworld, Blood Omen 2 (realistically, the only good console version, as the PS2 version just sucks by comparison), Fuzion Frenzy, NHL 2002 and really, a lot more games than I can even play.

It's future (the Xbox) is extremely bright... with so many killer titles coming this year that I could not possibly list all of them. Not to mention a *REAL* online plan... and I mean a really killer online plan. With tournaments, buddy lists that allow voice communication with any of your buddies despite what game they are playing... a standardized interface and an all broadband user base which will ensure a high quality gaming experience.

Please keep in mind that there are so many jaded gamers out there that are fanboys of a particular platform, and there are those who just simply hate Microsoft with all of their heart... which is blackened with anger towards them for whatever their reasons. So be careful when you listen to people thoughts on such a controversial matter. Their hatred, like hatred has always been, is taught to a mind that is impressionable... and these are the people they seek to "convert" to their reasoning.
