Yes, the G35 interior is nicer quality IMO, but TL fit/finish is better and overall more modern/high-tech looking. I still prefer the G35 interior.

Fixed. My nav sucks.

It really boils down to one question: does she want something 'exciting' and 'sporty', or does she want a top notch refined automobile? If you want something with more HP and more sports car handling, you want the G35. If you want something that well finished, with great features and an excellent drive, go with the TL.

I test drove the Beamer, the G35, the lexus 330 and the TL, and in the end I bought the TL. Best decision I've ever made.....

G35 seriously doesn't live up to its name... u only have to drive a car for couple mins to see the quality behind it.. go TL FTW!

I think TL is better, should be more reliable also.

Since performance is not the main point here.

Have your gf test drive them, thats the only way to find out.

Uhh, tell your gf to go test drive both cars and see which one she likes better. Not to generalize, but for most women, a car purchase is more an emotional choice (oh i like THAT one) instead of an intellectual choice (specs), and will be more concerned with comfort and such instead of handling.

Caveat- yes there are women who enjoy higher performance cars and appreciate handling/power.

Done that already and she likes both. That's the problem. For me it doesn't matter which car she gets. I'm not that big on luxury cars and performance. I prefer driving SUV's.

TL is superior. Better interior, more features, and more refined.

This is coming from a G35 coupe owner.

TL has better fit and finish and dash materials and design (subjective).
G35 has much better leather, and the backseat is roomier and reclines 😀

I'll give you the engine & handling, but that's it. The TL wins everything else.

How about reliability? Has one been better than the other? What about maintenance cost?
The TL model has only been around since 2004, so I think the best way to find out about reliability would be to visit a forum dedicated to the car. Tl.acurazine.com is where I go. You will find that they are a good group.

The G35 has been around since 2003, so you should be able to find some data, but I still think your best best is to find a forum.

I'd say that maintenance cost are about the same.

She doesn't want a 330 because they are everywhere in LA.

FWD or RWD she doesn't care, I am 99.99999999999% sure of that. I'm 100% sure she has no idea what's the difference.

Horsepower is not even an issue as she would not be "racing down the street" although she claims that it would be nice to have whenever she "needs it".

Did the TL's body change this year? It seems different from what I saw at the dealership last time I was there.

if she decides on the g35, get the rwd version instead of the awd since she doesn't even know the difference.

That's great advice if the guy wants to find his girlfriend in a ditch.

i don't quite understand the logic there but okay

RWD + Bad weather/road conditions = Not so great results.

Assume his gf can drive to some extent. M oreover, if you look at tests done, 99% of the time you're on RWD anyways even with teh AWD version....

And to that point, with modern traction control systems it is just about impossible to spin a RWD car in low traction conditions.

me thinks people need to actually drive the cars in question before offering up judgement.

As if it matters, Consumer Reports says the TL is a little better with a .1 second faster to 60 and better gas mileage.

and the pull from 80-120 is oh so fine on the TL.

But I'm not being biased here. All three cars are great in their own right...all depends on what you want and what feels best. There really is no "best" with these three, no matter what a magazine or internet board says.

I believe the OP said LA so inclement weather isn't an issue . . . except for the smog.😉

I agree with another poster that says she should just buy whatever she likes the best. All things are never truly equal.

I assume your GF's price target is less than $35k so that rules out a couple of decent competitors like the Audi A6 and Infiniti M35 unless she's willing to buy a low mileage used one.

An additional car to consider would be the A4 3.2L but that may seem a bit cramped compared to the others.

I own a '03TL-S, a buddy has a '04TL, and his brother has a G35. The new TL is a definite improvement over my car. In the simplest terms, I think the G35 is the car you want to drive and the TL is the better car to "travel" in.

The recent update of the G35 has a better interior than the earlier car but the TL is still superior. IMO, the M35 and both the Audis are better than either the G35 or TL.

g35x is awd anyway (too bad it is only available as an autotragic)

i was down to these two car also and went out of the catagory altogether.

It's not a bad gearbox though. I got a G35X a couple of times when I took the G35 Coupe in for service. One thing is nice about the newer slushomatic gearboxes. They have new software that actually blips the throttle on your downshifts when you're in manumatic mode. Not bad. This wouldn't be a bad transmission at all, even for the track.

I like the G35X better than the TL simply because the TL is front wheel drive. The car is beautiful, but with that much power, you get too much torque steer. It's just not an enthusiasts car IMO.

It all boils down to what is most important to you. If fit and finish is most important, I'd go with the TL. If you're looking for a drivers car, I'd go with the G35X.

Cheers to somebody who has actually driven them!

hats off to you sir.
