Tell us about your G1.

I'm a traveling nurse and am finally in an area with TMo's 3G, bought a G1 off eBay a few months ago, and am really enjoying the speed.

Just ordered a Yaboo battery from eBay and am looking forward to getting more battery life on the phone.

My favorite apps so far:

Google maps (pretty slick)

Google Voice (set it up to provide visual voicemail) Visual Voice for G1, using Google Voice

Phonebook from Voxmobil (love the interface)

CallLocation (shows country, state, city of caller)

Here's a link for Sherpa/Exchange ActiveSync for the G1

Tethering if you don't want to root hack your G1 (I just installed this app and get 1000k+ down, and ~300k up): http://www.junefabrics.com/android/index.php

Bought G1 from ebay about a month ago. I'm currently trying new cyanogen cupcake build on it.

My favorites apps:
ASTRO (file manager and app backup/restore)
My Tracks (map out where you've been and give stats)
Here I Am (send email or sms based on your location)
Astrid (to do list)
PDF Viewer (htc pdf viewer)
Swapper (add swap file to give more memory)
Toggle Settings (quick way to manage wifi, backlight, gps, sounds.. etc)
TasKiller (kill any apps that you don't want running and free memory)
StreamFurious (online radio)

ShopSavvy (kind of cool, but I don't have much time to price check often)

Can you guys confirm that the processor is the same processor that's in the Hero and Magic just underclocked? I'm assuming if you OC it you get it back to the same speed that the Magic/Hero currently are at?

Same processor. There are also apps (needs root) to set the clock to 528mhz. The Hero just have more memory, 288MB RAM and 512 ROM.

Just got it yesterday morning. I like it a lot, but its too damn slow. Did the Root thing and got an overclocking program. Not impressed. I love all the kickass apps and widgets. Currently have about 45 apps and a dozen games installed. 10 widgets running.
I've been playing around with low-end multimedia phones and business phones for a long time now, but none were quite what I wanted. As far as functionality goes the G1 is exactly what I needed. But the battery stinks and its even worse with an overclocked system. The extended batteries make this sucker absolutely monstrous. But I am happy with the Android OS being wide open as opposed to getting an iPhone at AT&T. Those guys are like bargaining with the devil over your soul. Whereas T-mobile seems to be a lot better about not gimping their phones or forcing you into a particular length of contract.
I may do a factory reset and turn in back in. I think I'll just carry my netbook to school in my backpack. It costs about the same and is a lot more powerful. No touchscreen either but I find touchpad with right-click is a little more useful.
If they could figure out a way to make this bad boy faster and have longer battery life I would keep it. Perhaps if they made a custom battery that was the entire back half of the phone. I do kill running apps and widgets when I want a speed increase (TasKiller), but its always marginal and then I dont have all my cool stuff up and in my face.
Also, I like having a full keypad but the way it slides up I cant access the right side easily. I wish the entire top half of the phone slid up and I could grip it easier. OR, have a bigger screen and much better software keypad.

Overall: Excellent, but based on a handful of irritating issues and the monthly cost, I will toss it on Monday. But I am absolutely in love with Android and will seriously look at anything else coming out. If only Nokia would wise up and do a major overhaul I'd have the perfect phone.

EDIT:
I just did a bunch of purging, but even with what I love, right now I have installed -

The Sony & Motorola offerings I see look great, the Sony phone is rumored to have a 1Ghz processor.

We're about to see the cell phone market change forever, and virtually every manufacturer will have access to an OS very similar to Apple's.

Shat will be fascinating is what the fringe manufacturers will do with the OS, ie: the knock off phones from China, etc will have a damn good free OS, it'll be a game changer.
