What Kleinkinstein is talking about is the speed that he's getting. I'm getting 1870MHz 9-9-9-24 1T with mine, but with my older X58 motherboard it takes 1.5v to do it because the next lower voltage setting is 1.4v, which isn't enough.

That Samsung is truly magic RAM.

^ Right! My performance is on the Pro4-M Z77. Your mileage will vary but I've dialed in the sweetspot for my board - high speed, low latency and ultralow voltage. I can easily hit 2200 but with CL 10-11 and 1.5v.

Sorry, i'm not familiar with RAM but what makes the Samsung RAM better? Lower latency has better performance?

Ram is the last thing I need to purchase for my build. Not really sure what to look for to differentiate between what to buy.

How does the ram in the op compare to this:

G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866

Probably will purchase one of them later today when I get back from celebrating with the family and appreciate any insight you all can provide on my ram purchase.

Thanks and have a safe and happy Thanksgiving all.

Wow, wish I needed some. All my systems are at 16GB now though, too bad it isn't ECC or I'd throw some in the server.

I bought 2 2x4GB kits this weekend, but today realized I should have bought the 2x8GB sticks for $50 - same price as my 4x4GB sticks. Deciding whether I want to return the 4 sticks or just keep them for future builds and buy the 2x8 kit today.

Yes.

That Samsung RAM is just the ultimate overclocker's RAM. The fact that it's low-profile and doesn't even stick up above the clasps on the memory sockets is a real bonus because it won't interfere with low-sitting CPU heatsinks.

Why can't they sell this stuff without the annoying (and problematic) heat spreaders? Not enough clearance, otherwise I might purchase them...

Perfect

My cpu cooler is pretty big and had to get some low profile ram in the first place. Guess it's about time to make a jump from 8 to 16 gig eh? Doubt I'll notice but why not...

You won't be disappointed. If you feel like overclocking, there are several threads over in Memory and Storage discussing the Samsung RAM. Here's my experience with two kits (TL;DR, it behaves very well even with 16GB (2 kits), including stability at 1T with relatively tight timings): http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2266467

I realize I know about nothing about RAM now, I thought lower was better so 8-8-8 is better than 9-9-9, but this highly praised RAM is 11-11-11 - and I'm not at all sure how to weigh different numbers in ratings, such as some ratings in things other than the 11-11-11. Then again I don't overclock, don't know enough to do that.

No you're right. But remember that cas11 is at 1.35v! These things are ROCK stable at cas8 even below 1.5v, which is the highest I'd go on a Sandy Bridge board. Two kits (16GB) are still stable at cas8 or cas9 at close to 1.5v, even at 1T. So you're right that the stock timings are a little loose, but there is SO much headroom/potential there, even with two kits, that this is the best enthusiast RAM out there right now.
