I wish lower QPI ratios were available for all X58s, as most can only do 36x at the lowest.
That makes kits like this absolutely unuseable for all but the best lucky P55 situations.

Next step for DDR3 i don't know, but right now it's rather reliant on Intel improving the memory controller significantly to actually accommodate these higher speeds.

What about AMD?

How well does that memory controller work with fast memory?

Even worse.
Most AMD enthusiasts prefer working on more moderate speeds with tighter timings for AMD systems, as it's impossible to get really high speeds, & performance isn't really improved.

The only platform where anywhere close to DDR3-2000+ can be consistently achieved is P55, other than for serious overclockers who aren't afraid of excessive voltage
