In another thread 'ribbon13' suggested I check out G.Skill's 1GB kit (512 x 2) of PC3200 ram. Someone else in the thread agreed, stating something to the effect of "anything with Samsung TCCD's is good stuff" (paraphrasing).

Upon looking at those G.skill sticks, and comparing to other g.skill sticks, I don't think they are TCCD's. If you look at the picture of them on newegg they just have a G.Skill graphic on them, no Samsung label. However, other g.skill sticks advertised as "Samsung TCCD" on the newegg title, do have the Samsung chips, and cost a LOT more (granted they're rated a lot higher, too.)

Not that it really matters, the reviews of the $100 1GB kit are good, but just curious... anyone know if these are really TCCD or not?

Anand's latest memory article on the new OCZ VX referred to it:

The OCZ PC3200 Platinum Rev.2 is our Reference test memory. It has been a consistent top performer in Athlon 64 tests and is based on Samsung TCCD chips on a Brainpower PCB. This means that performance of the OCZ should be comparable to the similarly configured G. Skill, Corsair, Mushkin, PDP Patriot, PQI and Geil TCCD, which are generally rated at DDR400, but often perform to DDR600 or higher on the Athlon 64 nF4 platform.

I think that qualifies it.

I'm not so sure... Yes, there are G.Skill dimms that are obviously TCCD dimms... you can see them in the picture. But for the ones I linked to above, that go for just under $100 on newegg, the chips do not say Samsung anywhere on them... only a Gskill label.

From what I've seen, with some manufacturers you can get lucky and get high-quality chips like that in Value RAM, but you can't count on it.
Or something. ;)

On a similar note, though, is there any kind of Value RAM round-up? I imagine it would be useful to a lot more people than round-ups of $200/gig ram. :)

Yeah, I wish there was such a round up... I'm also interested in this ram...
Mushkin budget stick
Anyone used it? What kind of timings can it do? It's actually slightly cheaper per gig than the G.Skill stuff I linked above... I wonder how it compares?
