"g:\documents does not exist"

I just had a friend call me and say that when he tries to open certain documents he sometimes gets this error message: "g:\documents does not exist"

He is using:
Windows XP SP2
Athlon 2700
7600gs
120GB HD

Any ideas are appreciated.

The document he's trying to access probably was on a share, mapped or temp drive?

Only one hard drive in the system and he doesn't have a removable/external drive. Not networked either.

It must have been a flash drive because if there is only one drive, it is not normal for it to be g:
