I like Alton, he's a geek so he really "speaks" to me, lol. Guy on the other hand, I can watch him, but not really into it and he seem meh.

Same here.

I've never looked that high, so I wouldn't know.

Yes he is.
"Chef" (from Latin caput) is the abbreviated form of the French phrase chef de cuisine, the "chief" or "head" of a kitchen. The title chef in the culinary profession originates from the roots of haute cuisine in the 19th century. The English use of the word chef has become a term that is sometimes used to mean any professional cook, regardless of rank.

I don't see anyone else cooking in his kitchen.

I'd agree with most of that. I do like Alton in that a lot of his stuff has worked for me, and also I find him highly entertaining.

I used to love the Food Network, but I can not stand "reality" cooking show challenge things which seems to be so common. As such I do not watch as much of that station as I used to.

I have yet to meet anyone who likes Guy Fieri, in fact that's so hard to believe it blows my mind :p

He sucks so hard. I love Bourdain's comment on him:

?There?s last year?s Great Hope, Guy Fieri, who reminds me of the ?Poochie? character in the classic Simpson?s episode where it is decided that Itchy and Scratchy need a ?hip, in-your-face, pro-active? new sidekick to bring in a younger demographic. Poochie (and seemingly Guy) is created by committee and an assemblage of compiled stats from focus groups: ?Twenty percent more rasta? ?needs more surfer.?

American food shows, WOW that tastes amazing, OMG that's so good, that's the best thing I have ever eaten. Does anything ever NOT taste good. Gordon Ramsay puking in toilets, spitting up food telling chefs they cant cook, that's awesome. Gordon is the man.

I don't think Alton owns a restaurant or works in a restaurant so he is just a gourmet cook, not a chef.

Alton Brown is ok.

Why all the hate for Guy Fieri? He is actually co-owner of five restaurants, that is far ahead of any cooking school experience in my book.
He is also a graduate of the UNLV hospitality management program. I enjoy his show on diners and dives. Lots of delicious, unhealthy food that I will never eat, but can enjoy on tv.

PS: The one I can't stand is Paula Deen. And Bourdain, although I like him, his negative schtick is starting to wear thin, he needs to be positive once in a while.

I don't own a TV but the few times I saw him he had personality and was eating unhealthy food. He's ok in my book, Alton on the other hand tries too hard to make something as simple as making a Grilled Cheese this huge science project. If you cut out all his bullshit theory talk and big words he's not doing anything. Guy's like "fuck it, I'm going to eat some deep fried Spaghetti today NOM NOM NOM! I can relate to him. Alton makes little things these huge deal. I mean he was climbing a fucking ladder in one show to put a Turkey in a deep fryer. That's a bit over the top.

My wife thinks he's really annoying and will leave the room if I'm watching Good Eats. I like him because he presents the food research in an understandable manner and explains each step, instead of assuming you know what the heck you're doing in the kitchen. He also figures out the best way to make a certain dish, as well as all the little tricks to get consistant, fabulous results.

He reminds me of Bill Nye the Science Guy :D

He doesn't even call himself a chef, he always refers to himself as a cook. Anyway, Good Eats is the only show on Food Network I watch. I'm big on the "science lesson" of cooking and seeing the process of not only how something is done, but why. I used to watch Bill Nye & Beakman when I was a kid so it's no surprise the science nerd in me likes Alton.

I'm not a science nerd, but I love his style simply because he explains the process. Most female-oriented cookbooks & TV shows assume your motherboard explained to you the secret inner workings of the kitchen and that you have a Ph.D in cooking from that. AB says here's A, B, C, and D ways to do it, C is the best way to do it because of X, Y, and Z, and here's some tricks for making it next time

You guys below the line may not get this show, but Heston Blumenthal (one of the best chefs in the world) does an awesome show called In Search of Perfection. It's not quite as, well odd/strange/quirky as Alton's show, but it does a great job of blending some science and amazing cooking.

True,

but I'd rather watch Giada than either of them. Good food and pretty damn good looking.

Oh Amen! I love it when she wears those low-cut tight shirts ... I could lose myself in that cleavage for days I tell you! :)

she has other shirts?

I like Giada too, but Batali is my all-time favorite Food Network Chef. I'm rather pissed that they replaced him with Giada, though she is much easier on the eyes...
