Hi all,
As usual, I just wanted to point out changes in policy.

Notice Date: October 11, 2001
Effective Date: November 6, 2001
To reduce the costs associated with credit card processing, the ability to receive credit card funded payments will become a feature reserved for Premier and Business accounts. Personal Accounts that receive credit card funded payments after 11/06/2001 may accept the payment by upgrading to a Premier or Business account, or they will have to deny the payment. Personal accounts will continue to be able to receive non-credit card funded payments for free. Once upgraded, Premier and Business Accounts may receive unlimited credit card funded payments.

Well, I've already got a Premiere account - but I'm always up to soften life's blows with a free t-shirt too. :D

I want a t-shirt!
I work at a Convience Store here in my hometown. Imagine how many people would see that t-shirt when I wear it! I'd be free advertising! All I need is the shirt though.......

:)

<< Screw Paypal... There goes the whole damn point of it. >>

If they don't do something drastic to stem the tidal wave of red ink, there will soon be no paypal to screw. That is why they're making this change, and I'd bet there are going to be more to come.

I would have upgraded to Premier a while ago if it didn't force you to pay a fee on ALL incoming transactions. Paypal's price structure is too polar: you either pay little or nothing (Personal) or you pay on every transaction (Premier). There is no happy middle-ground.

Hi mithrandir2001,

Thanks for your comments---

Business/Premier accounts do pay on all incoming transactions, but they also have more features than a personal account---

1. Seller Protection Program (this can help you in the event of a chargeback, which is another cost factor to consider if you are selling)
2. They can reduce their fees (effectively) by going PayPal Preferred

If I had it my way I would:

Charge a fee for all credit card transactions, whether it is $1 a month or $1000.
Have no charge for EFT transactions up to a certain dollar figure or transaction count per month. All transactions above the thresholds would be subject to a fee (without forcing you to change account types).

What I find the most disagreeable with the current structure is having to pay a fee to receive money from someone else's paypal balance, not checking acct transfers or CC. At the very least, pricing should be tiered: CC are the most expensive so charge the highest (e.g. 3%), EFT from checking accounts would cost less (1-1.5%) and direct paypal transfers would entail only a small fixed fee (25 cents).

I've got a question maybe someone can answer..... I know that I have signed up for a paypal personal account, but where would I see charges with these new changes? I rarely use it, and exclusively for buying only. Thanks!
