It was always a promotional program for Microsoft's Search engine.

I think they realized that it was costing far more money than new users of the engine.

I know I search for things using Google and only use Bing for cash back. And I used it like... once.

I was wondering when the beancounters would squash this. I can hear the board room now.

" Wheres the ROI!!!!!" answer " Its an investment in mindshare" response " The investors wont stand for throwing money away" ......end scene....

I got a few bucks back from Bing, but usually only in a backwards way, find the item with google, then figure out how to get bing to pay and find it again.

Last straw for me were two $100 refills from Tmobile that bing said I would get 30% back on and nothing despite follow up with transaction etc. numbers.

Recently I've gone back to using one of the oldest shopping searches, www.pricewatch.com to get the bottom price from many sources, double checked with google and amazon.

Dang just used it again last week. Best I ever did was using it on a washer/dryer combo I picked up new on ebay. Got $200 back on it which was sweet.

Before I go on a tangent, I'll be sad to lose BCB. I haven't used it that much (no more than $100 in savings, I'd say), but it was the reason I bought a ps3, which cost me a cool $258 after tax and BCB. I wonder if any irresistible deals will come to be for father's day.

Right, so now I'm going to be an asshole.

Zap's locked thread

Are you pointing out a Hot Deal or the possibility of a Hot Deal.

The first is allowed; speculation is just that, speculation/unconfirmed/possible/maybe,etc. Such does not fly here

This isn't a hot deal, or even speculation. Why should Zap's thread be locked and this one remain?
Truthfully, I think this thread is in the appropriate place but according to the above quote it's not.

What about all the amounts "pending" until after July? Is that just disappearing?

edit -- never mind, I see the last redemption date is July of NEXT year

I've gotten well over $1000 in BCB, the bulk of which was during the 40% off eBay days. Good times, and another legend in the annuals of Hot Deals.

i got almost $300 back from bing, some really amazing deals that i wouldn't have purchased from those stores otherwise. stores like dell, walmart, newegg, etc are gonna lose out. but i suppose there will be some other cashback program later on down the road.

I found Bing too much work to use. If I took the time I used learning how to use bing, and then hunting around for bing deals (which at Newegg were like 2% -3% by the time I got to them) and used it at work instead I would make more money that way. Spending hours power shopping becomes a waste at some point and Bing was always funky to shop with. Won't miss it.

This sucketh. Though I didn't participate in the great HP deal / debacle a couple of Christmases ago, I did get the odd cash back here and there, and of course it's been a great boon on eBay.

That said, this never made sense as a MS market strategy, though it may have made sense for some of the retailers.
