FYI: Angry Birds is a battery hog

No pun intended. Even if you let it sit in the background, it sucks battery like there's no tomorrow. After playing for neery 15 minutes, it ranked 4th on my battery usage list at 6%, behind only display, standby and idle.

Make sure if you're done playing it, you exit ALL THE WAY out.

I know it dominated my EVO if running in the foreground, i haven't paid attn to it's bg usage.

Not nearly as bad as Angry Birds. I haven't seen any game eat batteries for lunch like AB does.

Well, of course you can't compare games like solitaire to AB but any type of modern action game will suck battery just the same as AB.

i dunno, i played some more this afternoon and exited out using the home key. that was about 3 hours ago, i'm still at 79% after being off the charger for 8 hours. i am running an undervolted kernel though.

I played Angry Birds on my iPad for 4 hours and my battery was at 80%, you guys are doing something wrong.

The iPad has oodles more battery capacity than a smartphone, despite having, ya know, the exact same internal hardware. Of course its going to last longer, even with the bigger screen.

Is android battery life really that shitty? My Curve 8900 can go for like 2 days with wifi, GPS and bluetooth on and me using it pretty regularly. I don't recall my old iPhone 2G having problems going through 2 days being a little careful.

Its not so much Android as most modern smartphones have pretty bad battery life. Some are better than others - notably, the iPhone 4 and most Blackberries do well (BB in part because of slower processors and smaller screens) - but I've had a plethora of smartphones on multiple platforms and carriers, and its very rare that a phone will last a full day for me. If its not dead by bedtime (which it probably will be if I don't charge it), it certainly won't last the night.

power consumption is increasing and battery capacity is staying the same. its no surprise, really.

and once again, apples tight hardware software integration pays off.

It all depends on the hardware. Droid X has very good battery life and even bests iPhone 4 in some areas of battery life. It all depends on the company making the phone.

N1 battery life sucks.
Great standby battery (could probably go 2-3 days) but it must have only battery life for 2-3 hours of talk time/usage.

switching to GSM PRL (Auto) radio mode, using the calibrated screen setting in the latest cyanogen mod, and using an udervolted kernel all helped IMMENSELY. i went from having ~35% when i left work at 6pm to having $75%. (after about 10 hours off the battery). i no longer have to worry about it dying on a night out.

you've probably got a bad battery.
