This is completely false. You have the ability to turn on and off a locking feature that prevents other registrars from transfering unless you let them.
I had this service on my old registrar.

Log into your .tk control panel, click on "My Marketing" on the left, and hit the disable radio button. It takes a few minutes for the changes to go into effect.
 
Thanks. I figured it was something one would have to do via html. Once I created my account I saw it not realizing that is all it would be.

how do you get the nameserver information?! i cant find it anywhere. it says "Order a new domain, point your domain to our name servers (DNS transfer), or initiate a transfer of registrar to 1&1, to add on domains to this package. " but i cant find the the nameserver info anywhere. T_T

I don't understand that either but I thought it was just because I am new to these things. I signed up for a free domain at dot.tk and they wanted it pointed to a free website already created so now I need to figure out how to point the 1&1 to the domain name but be able to create a new site at 1&1 and not use the one already created that the domain name is pointed to.

These guys are cool.

Very professional service. Totally smooth operation. Easy-to-use interface.

Registrations, etc., took about 2 hours. Transfer of my existing domain to this webhost took about a day, very fast.

One gripe: what's with the userID generation scheme? I kept having to refer back to their email everytime I log in because the userid is a seven-digit random number.

Anyhow, lots of features. Here are some of the things I didn't expect:

50 subdomains allowed! (subdomains = [subdomain].[yourdomain].com)
SSL Encryption (may have been listed)
Database services (may have been listed)
Protected directories
SSH Shell access
Great website creator tool (with pretty okay themes)
Form creation tools
Stat tracking
JAVA chatroom
Webmail
Live2Live Dialog (like chat room but with voice? Someone please clarify)
Newsletter tool

and some more items.

All in all, great service. Something that I would not have problem paying for after my 3 years expired (Will renew my domain registration with them for the next couple of years too).

If anyone found anything suspicious, please post. So far, I have seen nothing.

what is this webhosting for? does it have to be for running a bidness? How can you use this service for a bidness? 'cause I want to use it for hosting some of my pics such as hot deals ads and reciepts.

The only problem I've noticed is that I get a 403 on trying to list directores via http, and they don't let you edit or even create .htaccess' to fix that problem :\

You can find a script to list your directories for you. Directory listing is disabled by default, as it should be.
 
has anyone been able to set up phpmyadmin for domains that are not being hosted thru 1and1?? their help instructions only tell you how to do it if your domain is hosted thru them.
