MSI 990FXA-GD80 supports the 9590. It's a beefy board with what looks like a bazillion power phases...

Cheapest ASUS/Gigabyte motherboards that officially support FX9370 and 9590 can be found for just $129,99 AR in newegg. They also have tons of features like 4x USB3, 7 or 8x SATA6, Quad CF and SLI, Support for registered ram etc.

ASUS M5A99FX Pro R2.0

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3

Also, the FX9370 with WaterCooling kit at $279,99 is an exceptional buy. You can OC to 4.8-5GHz (Turbo off) easily with this WC Kit. Or you could lower the Vcore by turning Turbo off and OC to 4.6GHz and have way lower power consumption.

Just for a comparison of costs, what would be a typical motherboard purchased with an i5 4670k? Newegg has those for $239.99.

They also have them for sub 100$ if we talk Z87.

The question is, how many boards and at what cost does actually officially support the 220W CPUs.

Thanks. :)

So something like 420$ at Newegg for the cheapest solution after all the price cuts, that is beaten by stock Haswell. No wonder they dont sell. And thats not including the TCO.

I wasn't trying to say that the FX9xxx CPU's are a better buy than Intel's i5's (though I do think they compete with them better than most give the FX CPU's credit for). I was just pointing out that you don't need a $250 motherboard to run an FX 9xxx series CPU. That $176 motherboard isn't cheap, but it does come with quite a nice list of features (even if the platform is dated).

*edit - That is the only board I see on Newegg that officially states that it supports the FX9xxx CPU's.

The two motherboards above from ASUS and Gigabyte officially support the FX9xxx series and they are not expensive, currently at $129,99 AR in Newegg.

Both ASUS and Gigabyte have 3 boards each that officially support FX9xxx series.

ASUS M5A99FX_PRO_R20, ASUS Sabertooth R2.0 and ASUS CrossHair V Formula Z.

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 4.0), GA-990FXA-UD5 (rev. 3.0) and GA-990FXA-UD7 (rev. 3.0)

$230 with or without the watercooler?

cheapest Haswell 4c with HT (1230V3) is $250 (with the intel aircooler included) on newegg, 3.3-3.7GHz 8t haswell should make an interesting comparison, but the big advantage is the 80W TDP, which mean compatibility with lower quality motherboards and low end air coolers.

but am3+ MBs that can handle 8350 OC should be able to handle the 9xxx FXs
