Hi, I am very happy to bring you my observations regarding these two video cards the nvidia FX5900 Ultra and the ATI 9800 Pro, I am lucky to have in my possesion these two video giants. I purchased my FX5900 from a person on anandtech forum last week from user SOUNDAV he owns a website dedicated to video card reviews. He sold me this FX5900 Ultra referance card in exchange for cash and my ATI 9800 Pro. Let me tell you this much I miss my 9800. You can't go wrong with either card but my 9800 128 meg card out bench marked the 5900 ultra in every faze, especially overclocking. My current system is a overclocked xp1700 on a abit nf7-s version 2.0 at 2354 mhz on air using geil pc3500 matched dual channell memory. My 3d mark2001 se at default res as follows 9800 128 meg= 18,013 Nvidia FX5900 Ultra 256 meg =16,700 this is unbelievable to me that this 5900 superpower underachieves in this benchmark. The scores are with video cards overclocked. Nvidia has a overclocking tool called nvhardpage, it auto detects best overclocking speeds for you, the core was 479mhz and the memory was 948 mhz =16,700 3dmark2001se. 9800 was overclocked to the max I forget the numbers but is resulted in a 18,013 3dmark2001. As far as 3dmark2003 my scores were as follows 5900= 6350 while the ATi 9800 scored a 6599 mark. I currently sold this Fx5900 on ebay and purchased a 9800 256meg card from newegg. I hope this write-up helps in your decision in purchasing your next high-end video card.
