Hi, I am very happy to bring you my observations regarding these two video cards the nvidia FX5900 Ultra and the ATI 9800 Pro, I am lucky to have in my possesion these two video giants. I purchased my FX5900 from a person on anandtech forum last week from user SOUNDAV he owns a website dedicated to video card reviews. He sold me this FX5900 Ultra referance card in exchange for cash and my ATI 9800 Pro. Let me tell you this much I miss my 9800. You can't go wrong with either card but my 9800 128 meg card out bench marked the 5900 ultra in every faze, especially overclocking. My current system is a overclocked xp1700 on a abit nf7-s version 2.0 at 2354 mhz on air using geil pc3500 matched dual channell memory. My 3d mark2001 se at default res as follows 9800 128 meg= 18,013 Nvidia FX5900 Ultra 256 meg =16,700 this is unbelievable to me that this 5900 superpower underachieves in this benchmark. The scores are with video cards overclocked. Nvidia has a overclocking tool called nvhardpage, it auto detects best overclocking speeds for you, the core was 479mhz and the memory was 948 mhz =16,700 3dmark2001se. 9800 was overclocked to the max I forget the numbers but is resulted in a 18,013 3dmark2001. As far as 3dmark2003 my scores were as follows 5900= 6350 while the ATi 9800 scored a 6599 mark. I currently sold this Fx5900 on ebay and purchased a 9800 256meg card from newegg. I hope this write-up helps in your decision in purchasing your next high-end video card. To show that this is vbalid write up here is the link to my fx5900 purchase: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=45&threadid=1062233&FTVAR_MSGDBTABLE=

Like i said I hope this helps in your next video card purchase! :D

You should always test using actual games rather than benchmarks as benchmarks don't show real game performance.

Most people know that the FX series won't get as close to the Radeon 9500+ series in benchmarks like 3dMark but you might be shocked to see how close it gets/ how much it beats the Radeon 9800 pro in games.

The GeForce FX 5900 Ultra is brand new so obviously the drivers aren't up to snuff yet. When they are it'll be the fastest of the fasted GPUs in the world.:)

Ahhh I was expecting when you the 9800 Pro was better in every faze(phase?) I expected more than some 3dmarks benchies. How about a real world game? And then you didnt even back up your claim about overclocking with any actual numbers made up or not.

I give this review a 1.2 out of 10.

Remember guys this is my personal observation, and regarding, that comment about putting a better processor in is a joke my system runs way better then 3000+ amd or a p4 3 gig stock system. My system is running at 448 fsb at 2300+ mhz screaming! You put the 9800 in a p4 3 gig you won't come close to a 18,000 3dmark2001 score. I had a 3 gig hyperthreading system, my 3dmarks were in the 16,000 range for the 9800 overclocked. Amd by far is the better system for gaming combined with the nforce2 chipset!

as far as real game benches, both cards ran all my high end games great! probably wouldn't see any differance untill dx9 games come out or doom 3 comes out.

Sure but what does that have to do with this review getting 1.2 out of 10?
